What is a "hand bill"?

Sorry for the dumb question.. I looked all over here and couldn't find an answer.

while I'm at it what is an Offset too?

Handbill is a small version of a poster -- a bill that fits in your hand. Also used to describe smaller prints about 10 inches or so on a longer side, to distinguish from larger prints/posters.

Offset printing is a common type of printing, but not used very much for collectible gigposters or most of the fine art prints discussed here.

Thank you for your speedy answer so a handbill is just a small print and off set is pretty much a poster?

an offset is an "offset lithograph" not a silkscreen poster/print, giclee, linocut, etc...

handbills, though now collectable, were originally used for advertising. they were mailed or passed out before the shows

Or were also distributed to sit next to cash registers at local record stores. I used to see TONS of them around the Belmont & Clark area in Chicago when I was in HS for shows at the Metro, Riv, Vic, and Aragon...
