If he wanted to raise some real money for this cause, a time limited release at $100 would probably do a better job.

he could also have released this print with the same run, same price, sold it out in seconds as is likely to happen and kept all the money for himself. why always look for the negative?

I never said it wasn't a nice gesture. But when you have the hype power that MBW has and the power to generate far more than $25k even with say a 10 minute time limited release why not take that route? So he sold 100 at 250 in about 30 seconds. Imagine if it was 800 or 1000 at $100 or $150.

Do you realize how long it would take to do 800 prints? And materials alone would cost over $2000.

Leaving aside the debate about flipping, the purchasers did not donate $250 to charity. Each person paid $250 for a print (whose value at present exceeds that amount), and the artist gave the money to charity of his own accord. Do you think all of the people who bought this would have given the $250 without receiving a print in return? Likewise, many (most? all?) of the people who bought the print probably would have bought it even if it wasn't a fundraiser. Regardless, the buyers paid market value for an in-demand print, which hardly constitutes giving money to charity. Either way, I wouldn't plan on deducting the $250 on next year's taxes.

I'll even pay the for mailing of print. Granted it's not a fancy screen print. But it is on incredibly fancy paper. In fact the paper is left over from a print job I did in 1984 for Alice Neel (yes I kept the paper that long because it's that good). And I was really young when I did the print.....I'm not that old.

We as a community have the opportunity to make a difference. Every little bit that we contribute makes a difference. There are only 15 of theses babies left so act fast.
