Huts and Homeslice are good. I agree.
Eastside Pies is really good too. Casino el Camino for a burger.
Trudy's for their Mexican Martini, rather than Chuys.
Curras is good, like Jojo said.
El Chilito for tacos.
Torchys for a good novelty taco. They aren't really mexican, or even tex-mex.
I'd hit up some of the better food trailers. Flip Happy, Odd duck.
The aforementioned BBQ places. Maybe Ruby's if you were in town.
Frank, for sure.

Weikels (sp?). My fiance is from La Grange, we always stop by there.jojobadass wrote: I might also eat some kolaches from that dumpy gas station near La Grange.
For La Grange BBQ, try Prause's. Its more of a meat-market, but its delicious, family owned, and old. (It is in the town square).
I'll be sure to try these places - is Flip Happy that one behind P. Terry's? If so, I've eaten there and its delicious, but its hours are weird.redbear wrote: Trudy's for their Mexican Martini, rather than Chuys.

Well... there is Wiekels and Hruskas, if he said "dumpy gas station" Wiekels fits that description more. And if you're talking about a Houston->Austin drive Wiekels is right off the freeway. They both have great baked goods though.redbear wrote:Jojo, are you talking about Hruskas? Love their kolaches.
PS: What does JoJo look like so I can be creepy, follow him around and flip to my hearts content?

Thanks for the tips D. How far a drive are Lexington / Lockhart / Taylor?redbear wrote:You guys are getting some really bad BBQ advice, other than what Jojo said.
Stubbs: Doesn't even rate. Historic place though. Great music. Go for the vibe, not the food.
Saltlick: The #1 most overrated BBQ in Austin. It's barely OK. The country atmosphere is nice though.
Rudy's: They have decent BBQ. But, I wouldn't call it top notch. I mean, the BBQ sauce is factory made with HFCS in it. It is a chain.
Austin area has 4 of the top 5 BBQ places in the state. Snow's in Lexington, the 2 Jojo mentioned in Lockhart, and Louis Mueller's in Taylor.
Other stuff:
The tubes are shorter ones. I think 24" wide. Unless they get other varieties this year.
That ATM has run out of cash in the past.
Meet and talk to your artists, and don't be fan boys.
You toss in a word, I'm your villain
I see the passion emerge, I'm your villain
But serious, You're so serious

But taking their tips

Depends where you leave from. The drive to Lexington can take about 45 minutes or so. Also, you need to get there before 10am. They only make it on Saturday, and sell out. However, if you want the best BBQ in the state, you do what you got to do.Kaber wrote:Thanks for the tips D. How far a drive are Lexington / Lockhart / Taylor?redbear wrote:

Here is a picture of the brisket. Check out that bark. This went in my mouth about 10 seconds later.
Taylor and Lockhart are also about 45 minutes away. Lockhart has multiple places. Both towns have more convenient hours.

take particular note of the grease and lack of sauce.
that's all you need........well maybe some white bread, beer, and a pickle to chase it down.

Like this? Pickles are in the cup. That chicken is the best I've ever had, too.jojobadass wrote:take particular note of the grease and lack of sauce.
