I'm having a fun time playing with Photoshop today. I'm new to it and just discovered Actions.

not sure if i posted these here already, but these 2 have been getting a helluva lot of attention on flickr the last few days. first one is the original image from which the canvas i posted above was sourced from. i got lucky as hell with this one, the sun was bright as hell and in just the right spot, no clouds, just perfect.

Image

this was shot in my BATHROOM of all places. probably the worst room for lighting in the house. very pleased with how i got this to come out.
Image

and just my personal opinion, but i do not do any editing to my photos after the fact. maybe 5% of the time i will do a little cropping, but for the most part, what you see is what i shot. i love being able to take control of my camera to get anything i want!

as always, plenty more eye candy on my flickr page in my sig below.

Tuumi, Maul, those both appeal to my metal/macabre nature for sure, sick. Greasy, I dig them both, the building reminds me of the band Frodus (which is a good thing) and the lizard is like Horkey's Bon Iver, you stare at it and get lost in the detail.

Attention for good reason. They are both great shots. I am partial to the building myself. Great lighting. So much reflective surface and yet so well controlled. Are you using the D50?

Thanks man. :D I was freezing my butt off crouching on the damp ground to get that first one. Much like greasy all crop and a subtle shift on the contrast.

yessir. love it. i spent the first 2 months of owning it learning how to tweak every freakin' setting in this beast (thats how i got the color and light correct on the building shot). now all i need is some new glass and a real good tripod. you bet your ass they are on my christmas list! the 2 main lenses i want to add to my arsenal are a fisheye and a low fixed-aperture lens for fast low light shots.

that said, its been a HELL of a transition from film, which i have been shooting for about 20 years.

what are you shooting?

Greasy. You shooting Nikon or Canon? Nikon here. For low light the 35mm 1.8 at $200 is a must have. Gonna wait and see what santa brings and if he is stingy I'm gonna pick it up myself.

My shithouse in the tundra on Stampede Rd. Denali National Park Alaska at 2am.
Permafrost is a bitch! The shitpile freezes in the shape of soft serve every year. Takes til August to thaw only to begin freezing again.
That leaves only a short time to shovel fudge.

Alaska. It really is the last frontier. When was the last time you took a leisurely boat trip with an SKS? My sister-in-law Stacey

Or a drymounting homemade cannon? Griswold AKA Grizz packin' a 5lb halibut sinker.
Grizz is a drymounting madman. He parachutes off his dad's (purple vest) homemade ultralight.

The carnage.

Recovery.
Image

Grizz dons a wetsuit and kneeboards a lesser traveled tributary of the Tanana. Probably the first and last person to ever do it. When people began scouting for a place to shoot the film Into the Wild they looked for a local. They found Griz and in the end he took Sean Penn out on a snowmobile to find just the right location to build the bus and do the filming.
Image

I've lost a ton of pictures because I was lazy about backing up my photos.
My lost photos include pics from the castle in Essaouira Morrocco that inspired Castles in the Sand by Hendrix.

The place is amazing.

WOW

yea, i shoot a nikon D50. that 1.8 is nice for $200, but im going to hunt for a used 1.3 possibly. i will wait for santa as well......my mother and stepfather owned a studio in nyc for close to 30 years so they know exactly what i want. they have a VAULT of equipment in their basement.........and neither of them ever owned a nikon body. booooooooooo. tons of pentax 35mm stuff (i mean TONS, macro tubes, huge tele lenses, everything), and of course the mamiya medium format bodies that i learned to shoot on as a kid. yea, hasselblads are the fudge and i will never say anything bad about them, but mamiya makes a damn good quality medium format, not to mention they are (at least the old ones) built like tanks. you could hammer nails with one and still shoot all day. hell, he still has his 2 mamiya battery packs for his lighting rigs. they weigh probably 30 pounds each, bought them new in the early 70s, and they STILL WORK FINE. same with the 3 mamiya bodies he still shoots with. still going strong after 40 or so years.....EASILY over 500,000 shots taken on each.

that SKS is sick.

that homemade cannon is even sicker. THROUGH the tree? gawd-dayum.

and great connection to into the wild.......brilliant story and i feel they did an excellent job on the screenplay.
