I know we've discussed how much american frame's new website design sucks before but can someone explain to me how their new matting measurements work? You put in the art size (8.5 x 11 in this case) and then they ask for overlap. well i don't really want overlap because the art is 8.5 x 11 and the paper is larger than that but i'll choose 1/16". that brings up a matte window opening of 8 3/8" x 10 7/8" I can live with that. 2" border all around and you would think frame size would be 12 3/8 x 14 7/8 but it's NOT. instead it's showing a frame size of 12 1/4 x 14 3/4. Am I insane or is that less than the dimensions of the matte board?
Anyone know how they calculate matte and frame sizes now?
AFs crappy new website

if it aint broke dont fix it. they took a website that was extremely simple to navigate and made it a train wreck. it took me 20 minutes to upload a pic. it kept giving me a size error message or some crap. do the frames still come assembled? it used to mention being assembled unless you request otherwise...last time i looked at the site there was no mention of it. i prolly wont use em anymore.

I ordered a frame & matte (22 x 28), but I ordered the mat without a window in it--I cut it myself. The frame came assembled in probably the best packing job I've ever seen to ward off the evils of UPS.lightyears2010 wrote:if it aint broke dont fix it. they took a website that was extremely simple to navigate and made it a train wreck. it took me 20 minutes to upload a pic. it kept giving me a size error message or some crap. do the frames still come assembled? it used to mention being assembled unless you request otherwise...last time i looked at the site there was no mention of it. i prolly wont use em anymore.

I played with it a little...I picked art size of 19 x 25, matte border of 2" all around and overlap of 1/8". The frame was 23 3/4 x 29 3/4. When I made the border 2 1/8" all around (to include the overlap), the frame size changed to 24 x 30, as I expected.greenhorn1 wrote:I know we've discussed how much american frame's new website design sucks before but can someone explain to me how their new matting measurements work? Looks like they are including the offset to cover the print in the width of the border.
In the case you describe, it appears it is removing 1/8 (or 2 x 1/16) from the overall outer dimensions. If you made the border 2 1/16" all around, you would get 12 3/8 x 14 7/8 as you expected.

i think the problem is that their site doesn't account for changes in overlap (from 1/8th to 1/16th) by an equal change in frame size. stupid design flaw that can be worked around by fudging the numbers but yeah not user friendly at all.

I can't figure out how to load a pic either, can someone help me with this, I use to just save a image and load it up just like that, But I have tried like 30 times and it keeps saying its needs to be 650x650 pixels. Is there a way to change the image ? I have no clue
