I would personally do it EXACTLY the way you intend to.. Looks fantastic..
If this were mine I'd do something similar to this. You get somewhat of a split complementary scheme with an additional couple analogous colors by the split. I think it really pulls the whole thing together.
Amazing job regardless of what you choose. Beautiful frame for a beautiful print.

Thanks again folks, this things a Blast to work on, so much different than my everyday.
So I sat around toying with mat colors for a long time yesterday...
Just long enough to know that I have NO idea what I really want to do.
In fact I'm gonna take the frame & print to a frame up store just so I can try some things out.
One thing I know an Orange-ish mat is out. You can't really tell from the pics, but the Mahogany has similar color to the Flying Fox(That's how I look at it anyway). This pic is slightly enhanced...enough that the color is closer.
Another great thing about Mahogany is the variations you get walking by from the light, quite trippy & also one reason why it's hard to get a good pic.
As I look at this pic, I'm struck by how deep the finish on the black is..
The Green is a reflection of my lawn about 20 feet away.
Oh and BTW there is NO Black on the Mohog & by the same token no gloss on the matt black.(The best reason to do it the way I did) VERY Clean..

ALL the parts I'm NOT in control of are Special Order/Oversized.
I have the UV non Glare glass in the lair(I got a good deal at $90.00 for a 42" x 36ish".
I was going to go with the Suede/Gold combo til I found out it's $183 uncut.
So I have two white mats on order.
I MAY suede & gold leaf the mats my self & have done that before so I'm not worried about it.
Right now till I get 'em though...I haven't completely decided.
The mats should be here early next week.
Sorry this slowed down so hard, but I gotta pay for this stuff somehow so a little bit at at time is where I'm at.
Thanks for the interest.

Best thread. Give this guy your dooshy handbill, Teej.
not dead
i am so glad this thread was bumped. I have never seen framework like this!!! It is amazing!!! I always wondered if there were any good artisans still out there. The craftmanship is phenominal.
I wish I had the amount of craftmanship that you have in your little pinky. Well done.
