tough lesson to learn...

i work in shipping and receiving for Nissan North America....UPS can damage paper, cardboard, plastic, lead, steel and any other material known to man...seen it too many times.

also, with the way the freight industry is these days, they throw as much crap on a truck as possible and cross their fingers. also, consider that this is the holiday season which leads to even more risk of mishandling of goods.

Yazoo Mills tubes are the best bet.

i use USPS. for what it's worth, i always put a fragile sticker on the tube.

I use USPS. The only problems that I have ever had were when the PJ 10C used to ship in the paper thin tubes. Use Priority Mail too, the less time in transit the less time the item has to get damaged. I always use pay the extra few bucks for insurance too, mostly for piece of mind.

USPS...most of the time I ship the tube in a triangular Priority mailer for added protection.

I dont see anything at all fishy about his story. The print is obviously damaged. Have him return it to you, then refund his money. He isnt asking for a lot, he spent $400 on a print, he is entitled to receive said print undamaged.

Sorry to sound harsh, thats the way I fairly see it.

Well I need to go through the claim process, never done it before, but I hope it goes smoothly. I didn't insure it to the full amount either just to save a few bucks. Let's just say I'm kicking myself for that now!

Typically unless you pay for extra coverage you are covered up to $100. I've never shipped a print through UPS though, just stuff from work and never had a problem with getting compensation from them on anything less than $100, but I can't be sure about how they would handle this situation

unless they let you keep the poster it might not be worth filing the claim. i'm guessing you can re-sell the poster. people are freaks for that Emek guys stuff.
