Storing Large Print?

Anyone have any suggestions on storing large prints? I’m looking into picking up a print that’s around 45x45. It will be expensive to frame so I wouldn’t do it right away, so I’d need to store it safely in the meantime.

It’s larger than my flatfile, and I purchased a large museum grade storage box years ago (31x41) for oversized prints that don’t fit in my flatfile and it’s also larger than the box. Largest foamcore I can find to order are 40x60 so just too small to make a sandwich.

Anyone have any creative (not too expensive) methods to safely store a large print?

just keep em rolled... if the roll is big enough shouldn't really effect the print (depending on how thick the paper is)... i keep a few of my super large prints like that. they are generally rolled on a large inner tube and then stored in a xl outer tube. feels way way safer then storing them flat...

You pretty much have to keep it in a large diameter tube… sucks.
Framing it isn’t cheap… would love to frame my Pearl Jam SB Ames XL.
Probably cost over a grand and I don’t have a wall that big anyway.

I used sheets of housing foamcore to store some huge brainwash- sandwiched and clamped to store vertically

Humidity is a factor whether it's stored rolled or flat. I have had some oversized prints stored for extended periods in 6" diameter tubes, rolled around a core. I will lay them out every now and again to check on them and they always lay flat immediately. No issues with warping or wanting to stay rolled forever. They barely even curl at the edges.

If you really want it flat you could get a 4 x 8 sheet of thin plywood and cut that in half.

Similar to what gratefulphish99 mentioned, I've used large sheets of art foam core board with glassine between the print and foam core board (and between prints), then clamped together with binder clips. Mine are stored horizontally on top of the flat file so I'm able to use thinner foam core board. I would opt for thicker foam core if I was storing them vertically. This works for any prints that don't fit in my flat file and aren't going to be framed in the near future.

i found a place that at least let’s me add large custom cut foamcore to my cart for a reasonable price. i’ll report back if it actually ships. uline is fine but the minimum order requirements kill it.

i agree in general but it was XL it nothing, wish i could have found a regular.
