Why not use the same user name on all forums? Just curious as to why you wouldn't. Like I said. Don't let Ames pull the wool over your eyes. :P

As a consumer, I want full disclosure on the entire original print-run. I don't mind a s/n edition AND an unnumbered edition, but I would prefer to know in advance that both exist.

I can't say it's "unethical" if the artist is forced to adhere to a contract that stipulates both editions.

I'd LOVE to see each and every print that leaves the print-shop get signed. But I understand that it might not be as cost effective to do this based on current industry practices. Personally, I'd rather pay a higher sticker-price to facilitate the process and politics of numbering every print. But I suspect that I'm an exception to the 'average' poster-buyer

For just one second lets put all the politics aside and consider you average 30 something consumer. He/she walks into the disney store and buys a limited edition of 25K print of donald duck. What do you think he is thinking.

1. He is getting 1/25K of these prints.

or

2. He is getting 1/25K of the numbered ones

The customer is always right. There is no need for a rule book in this matter. The "correct" was is the expected.

Agreed Thomas, this is so simple. We all know the old saying "honesty is the best policy". Does this apply to Ames in reference to the limited edition box set? A 10 year old can answer that question without hesitation. Apparently this does not apply to eikel and his formed beliefs of how things should work from a rock art perspective. I guess you can only blame years of being bamboozled on that formed opinion.

If honesty is the best policy then the Ames box set is the biggest form of dishonesty. Can you at least admit to that eikel/piemel/insert name here?

When stating an opinion why do you feel the need for comparison? I just don't get it. Can I not form a just opinion on a particular business practice without dragging in every other deceitful like-minded business practice in the process?

Sunset... you know that in the majority of the cases that when you buy a print from any artist you get your option 2....

If a poster collector can accept that 2) applies for his Jermaine/Kozik/Ryan purchase then why not have the EXACT SAME attitude when it comes to buying an Ames boxset?

right?
Allow me to answer in two parts. The card s are not posters. Ames did not say there was a promo version. There is no excuse for that. Even if you wish to make comparisions it does not matter. It is dead wrong.

If I was to take 100 people off the street and ask them if it is ok for disney to sell more than the limited run, what do you think 99/100 are going to say? It is wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong. And your tamerind reference point would agree that it is wrong. So it is wrong, plain and simple.

To my knowledge, the PNE group has not sold any of the unnumbered prints. QOTSA has some sort of show proof for sale on their site, and I'm sure they were sellling at the merch booths of their shows, but these are not being sold by the artists. The serious collector that wants a pristine print shipped to them will buy from the artist and not take their chances with somebody that works at the band's website that handles posters the same way they do t-shirts and keychains. And I've seen prints being sold at shows. Trust me, unless it's a real deal that I can't pass up, I'd rather not have something that the booth guy has been resting his beer on all day. Even when I tell them to pull from the middle, it's a crapshoot.

More importantly, PNE has also not taken these unnumbered prints and slapped an "ap2" on them or something similar and then had the audacity to spin it in such a way as to they're doing the collector a favor.

As a side note. I have the jermaine subscription. In that I get the promo versions too, which use the same design but the colors are different. Technically, it is a different print altogether.

That was getting off subject. If Ames wanted to make a 1000, number 500 then that is cool as long as they tell people that. But to simply come out an sell 500 numbered sets with no mention of the rest is deceptive, misleading and wrong.
