i go to austin for a few days and all these weak takes pop up in this thread.

lotto system happened. about 400 people showed up for the midnight draw. rob jones hung out and watched it all happen. good lols had by all.

the last jedi poster is solid. the printing on the variant is aces. i think it has 18 layers? or something like that. hence the $100 price tag.

the weekend overall was lovely seeing everyone. the screenings were great. There Will Be Blood and Scott Pilgrim were on 35mm which ruled.

the Ruas TWBB is aces and a lovely cherry on top of the whole weekend.

Gentle reminder that camping out for days to buy fudge like limited edition posters is up there on the flashing warning lights of what is wrong with modern society.

Okie dokie. here we go. people don't camp for days for posters. the people who camp for more than a day or two are doing it for originals. thats what the line was started for during this mondocon. most were going for Edmiston commission spots, and others for kurtz originals. There have been very few cases where people camp for days for just prints. The disney show is the only thing that comes to mind.

you guys always want to act like its many many people who camp for multiple days for posters and that isn't really the case. its usually just 5-10 people who are after originals for artists they are really passionate about.

everyone in those lines know its on paper a very silly thing to do. and the people involved are usually pretty aware that they are doing something that most wouldn't, or can't do out of basic work/life commitments. and like any normal person, they don't want to sleep in a chair outside overnight.

i have done some long term camps for house party and tiny trifecta and they are some of my fondest memories of the hobby with some of its most engaging and kind fans.

so i personally think that the rant above is baseless and kinda rude. and if you ever did come and hang out with the line people you'd probably have a nice time.

I decided to stay all night after arriving around 10 p.m. because I flew in specifically for MondoCon and had no other plans. It was honestly an unexpectedly fun night of meeting a few folks I've talked to online through this hobby and making a few more friends (I should have checked-in more here, sorry to miss you Paul and others).

As I was talking to one new acquaintance, we both remarked how this community is almost entirely online and fragmented through Facebook, EB, and other sites. MondoCon is really one of the few times we get to come together and that communal experience is worth more to a lot of us than just "waiting for pieces of paper".

I dunno, it's crazy and I get the point that it's crazy to camp solely just to get paper, but that's kind of the thing - for context, a lot of people stay in that overnight camp to chat, to get to know people they've only ever interacted with on Facebook (or god forbid HERE), to kind of bond over the random mutual absurdity of choosing to stick around. It's never just about the paper - plenty of people know they are in position for things that are likely to last if they just show up the morning of - as it's an opportunity to get everybody together, without the splintering off to buy stuff when the con itself starts, or the other plans people make beyond the con. Maybe that's symptomatic of something else, sure, and we'd all certainly like to be doing this in some less uncomfortable way than in a line at night in the Austin heat, but it's certainly not 100% the FOMO, at least not to the majority of people who aren't in the top 5-10 in a line anyway. But whatevs, I'm just another inmate in the asylum so grain of salt there I guess.

I’d just like to point out two things about my views on camping out for the purpose of buying, well, really anything, but in this case posters :

1) My views don’t matter. If you’re having a good time, keep it up! Make a connection with like minded individuals! Share a laugh! Make some memories!

2) and I really can’t stress this enough, my views are spot on.
