Sorry to be a noob, but I guess everyone was at some point. I'm trying to find a post on tips for rookies on here, but I'm coming up short. Any tips for a noob? For starters - why can't I update my avatar?

Never pay as gift unless it's me or you know them personally. Always search the forum for a user's name before conducting business. Read the how-to and actively submit art to the db, especially bottleneck gallery items. Criticize constructively. Don't be a dick.

Spend time reading and lurking and using the search feature - odds are if you have questions, there are answers around here somewhere. Handle any buying/selling with caution. Make all ritual sacrifices in Codeblue's name so that he may rise again.

This

There’s a lot of cool, awesome people on this site. Help others out with drops, make friends, etc. EB is just a fun place to unwind and escape to, even if its just for a few minutes during the workday.

Not specific to this forum but to the hobby in general - buy what you like. Don’t get sucked in by a bunch of hype. It’s okay to love a thing that will probably never be worth more than cost. Figure out your style, hang as much as you can on your walls. A piece of original art will highly likely mean more to you than a lot of mediocre posters sitting in a flat file or portfolio. Learn some basic framing and storage techniques. If you live with a partner, show them what you like and get approval. Buy them things they love that might not be your favorite and display them. Don’t spend what you can’t afford. Print commissions are not great and can take years and you will very very rarely be involved in one that’s worth anything so don’t join in hopes of flipping. Have fun, this is supposed to be fun, it’s only paper.

If you miss on a drop (even if it's for something you REALLY wanted), don't be an entitled brat. You get easy drops, you get hard drops, you miss easy drops, you miss hard drops. Just be grateful for the pieces you end up getting and encourage others who missed out. Flippers will always be a part of this hobby. Learn to live with that fact sooner rather than later, or else you'll become said "entitled brat".... and that's never a good thing.

And most importantly, just remember....... IT'S FANCY PAPER!!! ENJOY IT!!!
