its not great, a missed opportunity to let the house do the work, but i wasnt going to say no to being able to officially release a winchester art print and have a helen mirren film on my resume because she da best.
Oh I get it. It’s like an almost perfect job for you, and the poster absolutely kicks ass. Just a shame it’s for what I can only imagine is a hot pile of garbage of a film. Which also kind of surprises me because I just assume the inclusion of Helen Mirren equates to something that is at least borderline watchable. Here, I’d rather spend five minutes looking at the poster.
i really like working for CBS films and they take really good care of me and do "this kinda thing" with artists really right, and i was probably the best person for this specific job, so unless the movie was OFFENSIVE in some way i wasnt gonna say no. i had higher hopes as i really enjoyed The Woman in Black a few years back and ive been obsessed with the story behind the house. i was a ways into drawing it when i saw the film, and i saw a rough cut, and its whatever. arguably a little too shoehorned into the modern horror genre instead of stepping back and letting the house and sets do the heavy lifting tonally and letting it breathe a bit and compress when needed, arguably a little too singularly focused for 'the most haunted house in america' story wise. helen looks great, i had fun working on it and visiting the house...
the next three prints i have lined up are SOLID. FACKIN. BANGERS. though.

Like fugazi-level #solidfackinbngrz or just, you know, without nailing all our moms n pops on a pile of foil benjamins? Prefer the former- 'rents could use a nice night out.

I think he had them reprinted due to them not being up to standard.

CBS Feature Films sent out the movie version three weeks ago. I wonder why DD waited so long to decide to reprint. H-m-m-m...

half that time was where i had to decide if i wanted to / could personally eat half of my payment for the entire project so the prints would look nicer so buyers would be happier, as cbs would not be reprinting anything, and then the other half was talking with the print shop about how we could do better. not exactly a conspiracy.

I'm still amused that CBS turned down having you ship them, DD. Like, somebody in their shipping department was all "NAH I GOT THIS." I applaud that dude or dudette's initiative, I guess.
