I really haven't bought much of anything since April. Been putting all my extra cash towards traveling. Here's pretty much it from the first few months of 2016.

The devil can be a bit over the top for me sometimes but that Moss frame up is badass.

So with buying a house and then sinking 10 grand into it this year, I decided to go a slightly different route with my collecting efforts. I've been scouring thrift shops, estate sales, Craigslist and online auctions for things that slip through the cracks - unattributed, mis-attributed and underappreciated art. Have found some pretty great things at great prices. These ones come to mind, but this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Possibly something by David Choe? Unsigned. Maybe a study or maybe something inspired by his work.

A charcoal portrait of Edward Hopper by Leo Mielziner. They were neighbors in Truro, MA and this was done the month before Mielziner died. Hopper was in town at the time, so I suppose it's possible this was done from life.

A portrait by Robert Brackman https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Brackman

A portrait of Awa Tsireh, a Native American artist, by Colorado Springs artist Ida F. Lee. Painted in 1929. There's an exhibition label on the back from the Denver Art Museum's 36th Annual Exhibition in 1930.

A resin sculpture by Boulder, CO artist Robert Harlow Platts. I actually picked up four pieces by him in varying styles from someone on Craigslist for a steal.

Fantastic stuff! Try emailing Choe about that piece that may be his. He was always pretty good at getting back to me when I contacted him a few years ago.

Love that Hopper portrait!

Thanks. I've tried a couple of different e-mail addresses. He's a significantly busier guy these days I suppose.

On the Hopper portrait, the seller thought it was a portrait of Rockwell Kent, but there's a little notation on the back that it was done in Truro. I connected the dots and found that the Mielziner family and Hopper were well-acquainted. Now to get it out of the sorry old frame.
