I just cannot wrap my mind around the crazy obsession with Iron Giant. It was an ok movie.

I'd say slightly below ok compared to all the other kid movies back then. It just never clicked with me.

True. Maybe the fact that i never saw it as a kid has somethin to do with it. Saw it last year for the first time. Fine with never seeing it again lol. Less Iron Giant, more Pagemaster.

Interesting. I first saw Iron Giant about two years ago at the age of 30 and I think it's a great film.

Well firstly the movie isn't that old so most of y'all were already adults probably. Second I think the specialness of it(and this is coming from someone who think it's a fine movie not amazing) comes from the fact that it was a traditionally animated movie in a cg world where those movies barely exist anymore and also sporting a retro aesthetic reminiscent of classic animation. I think that's where the fandom comes from.

I think Iron Giant is fantastic. And when Time Out released their top 100 animated films list, which is a pretty great list, they put it at #7. I can't fathom a "just ok" reaction, but this is all subjective.

I should watch it again. I dig it. I do not love it as much as others do.

The full sized sculpture of his face at the 1988 show was pretty awesome.
