That 'Saddest Landscape' print that dropped a while back has to be the deal of the year for $20. Big, beautiful image, great colors, thick paper, heavy inks and a subtle varnish overlay. Gorgeous.

For good reason. His son, Joe Hill is/was the main writer.finneganm wrote:I'm reading Locke & Key right now. So far it's how I pictured if Stephen King wrote a graphic novel. Very entertaining. First time I've ever read a graphic novel on a tablet...

not actually a varnish, the crosses are cut out from a layer trapped underneath the black ink. black ink is never 100% opaque, and will look (and reflect) different depending on whats underneath it. its a stupid cheap trick, but i like doing it.
Cool, thanks for the technical info, does the underlying layer need to be a certain color(to achieve the effect in this instance)?

nah, i think its just a dark blue in this case. if you were to print a rainbow of colored squares bumped up next to each other, and then print black ink over all of them covering them completely, each square would read differently. just the nature of ink. you can make black linework or open areas of black more dynamic by working shading into the layers of ink underneath, even though the black will "cover it up". itll be subtle, but itll be there.
Danke!
