Ha, pre-ordered but then had to cancel that...would've had to go for the complete armory set and buying a miniature life-like Michael Caine-as-Alfred was *literally* where I drew the line.jal9000 wrote:I just picked up this Joker piece to go with my Dark Knight Armory set.danieldanger wrote:

The hell makes these toys? And I feel like calling them toys isn't doing them justice..... I've never seen anything like these things before.
Any Encino Man figures out there, Eh?

Let's not forget about our Limited Beer addiction. That fudge aint cheap either and people think we are crazy dishing out that much money for a single beer.63schoeffling wrote:Yeah apparently. Hence my shock at the instant (I think?) sell out. I just figured they would be up for a little while and eventually sell out but had no idea there was that big of demand. By no means am I knocking anyone.... I'm the asshole that spends stupid money on paper and records..... But just didn't know there was a high demand.danieldanger wrote:63schoeffling wrote:I've just honestly never been in someone's house that had something like a fancy IG figure or toy before. I've seen tons of people with posters but I guess I just don't know enough about the product and what would justify the $300 price tag. I mean I feel like you could buy something like this at Target for like $39.99.danieldanger wrote:if youre posting on a messageboard where people are constantly buying and trading expensive pieces of paper based on niche properties, but dont understand why or are shocked by the fact that theres a long running market for high end toys bought by adults, then you are living in a delusional fantasy land with your head in the sand.
Apparently there are a bunch of people out there who will she'll out for it. Just honestly didn't see that coming at all.
then you are simply going into the houses of people who dont collect toys. because theres a goddamned zillion of them, and holy fudge, theyre crazy.
Learn something new every day.

Not yet. Hot Toys (what they're called) recently got Star Wars though, helluva market...63schoeffling wrote:The hell makes these toys? And I feel like calling them toys isn't doing them justice..... I've never seen anything like these things before.

Anyway, the thing is that Mondo priced their toy against this particular market, and while it's definitely a little closer to the higher end, no question this is where they want to play. And 250 selling out quick makes a lot more sense in that context (especially since "limited" can be a run of a thousand or so globally).

So I think it's safe to say that when you question why someone would pay $ dollars for something when you in fact do the same thing in your niche hobby, you come off looking pretty ignorant. Maybe in the future people will pause and think a second before they type. (and proofread...and click submit...and edit...)
I have to stay off guitar forums. That crap gets more expensive than paper. I keep telling myself I like my current rig and there's no need to change it (let's see how long that lasts)danieldanger wrote:lets not forget about vintage and boutique guitar effects. hundreds of dollars a pop. ive got a goddamned room full of the things. its ALMOST like there are MANY hobbies in the world that require money/time/patience.
