I'd like a little more info on it too.
He did lose it in the end and turned out pretty evil. He had a lot of fudge on his back so could be the idea with the church and stuff up there.
Not sure about the wee dude. Is it himself? Like when he went "hunting" in the beginning?

Obviously, it is a visual manifestation of the metaphor of oil destroying what started out a good man. He lost a son. He grew problems he carried to the end of his days that eventually crushed him and precipitated his return to the earth to be buried like his oil coupled to the repetitious nature of man and another faceless man, will great him again and use the oil he has become to continue the cycle of avarice that dooms mankind to subjugation and loss. If you have an extra, I wants it!
