Farking flying foxes are everywhere now in Sydney on any night the sky is full of them doing there thing which is very noisy but its the smell from the colonies that is so over whelming it can knock a man out they can do wonders for your garden tho well there fudge can anyway. Its to bad they can't be trained it would be cool to have a crew of 100 attack bats to help out when i go out on neighbourhood watch patrol,,

Hey guys,
I would love it if some of you could do the following as this really is the last chance to save the Palace.
A venue and staff that has always supported my poster work and given great gigs to John at BTP.
Without them there would have been a lot less gigposters from myself (if any at all, I actually met John at the old Palace in St Kilda) and without them their certainly will be less in the future.
Only takes a few minutes.

Being a Sydneysider we normally don't give a toss about down south

but on this occasion it is our moral duty to care, what is going on these days it seems we (Australian/state govnt) are selling all the furniture in the house and mainly to the Chinese not that nationality matters but why do we have to sell so many land marks to people that just want to razz it and rebuild some horrible sterile living space that will only be open to the wealthier end of the market but more importantly helps the city to lose its soul and a city without a soul is like a man without a conscience (deep I know). I remember reading about The Palace and its new owners a year ago http://www.tonedeaf.com.au/news/local-n ... nister.htm When I was a youngster there were so many places to see live music/exhibits/shows in Sydney now most of the venues have been sold and deflocked to make room for,, yep that's right poker machines or uptown apartments that sell for $750k+ what ever polies allowed pokies out of the casino's and in to any licensed premises should be feed to the feral pigs of NT. I digress will write creative email now.

I was in outre over the weekend in Perth checking out their collection. The Kawasaki's, Ryden's and Ji's were really nice and nicely framed. I read that they do some framing there, and given the quality of the frames they use, I was curious if anyone's used Outre (either in Perth or Melbourne) before for framing?

Also worth adding that I've always been down on Shag prints because I never really got them or why they cost so much, but seeing one in person shows how damn good they actually are. I still wouldn't pay the amount they go for, but yeah very nice.

Last I asked, they send their fudge over to Melbourne for framing, only do it out of the Vic shop, might have changed, was a while ago

I have used them in Sydney and i think they are mrkyuss,s framers for convenience, i have 3 prints framed by them and for the money you won't find better value. In Sydney if you want them to frame a print it gets sent down to Melbourne not sure if that would be the case for you sand gropers..

I purchased a Geddes Failing Echo from mrkyuss that was framed at Outre in Melbourne. It's as good it gets. Really really top notch framing.
I think Nick might get all of his stuff framed there, so he'll be able to share a little more info.

Cheers. I might take one of my smaller prints in and see what they can do for it. The framing of the other stuff in there was just great. Really nicely framed up. Made me really want a Kawasaki print and a Ji print for sure. If I were a weaker man I would have been desperately broke that day.

Yup, things may of changed but last I knew, Outre don't do any of their own framing, nor ever have. They farm out all their work out to a framer in Melbs, can't remember who, off the top of my head & I could possibly check but kinda makes sense just to go straight to them to get your work done, rather than a gallery in the CBD, you know?! I own several of their pieces & do thoroughly enjoy them but not so sure I'd call them quality, definitely not as good as it gets, nor top notch. It is nice but still only very basic framing & using very standard materials but like roo said, they're not so unreasonably priced for a fair product, especially for a gallery framer, generally whose main concerns are just getting it up on the wall for display. Outre can keep costs as down as they obviously order & get work done in bulk amounts of the same generic materials, which isn't a bad thing either, unless you have problem with normal, plain glass or cheap, non acid free matting. What I really don't get is why you'd consider sending your artwork over east, where they'll send it on again to the framer they use, only to have him send it back to them & then once again, back over here to you... Sounds like more trouble than its worth to me, especially when you could easily just go to your local framing shop (or even... cough... a friendly, neighbourhood, West Australian framer... cough... ) who could do the same job for you, resulting in the exact look but with, most likely, better materials & possibly at a fraction of the cost! Hope this helps, whatever you decide.

Too right. I wasn't aware they'd send most of them over East. So would you say the framed pieces they have aren't archival then?

I'm still using my local guy but haven't framed something in a long while though.

What TOTM said is bang on, the framing is good for the money ( hang on i said that ) but certainly not top end, DonP i would just get TOTM to do all your framing

Outre,s 3rd party framing is conservation (all acid free materials but not archival) it is so easy to go over the top when getting framing done but 90% of the time museum quality framing is not necessary and is a waste of cash well that is my thought for the evening anyways.. Donny, they bring everything from over east already framed & really wouldn't think they'd send anything over to get done from here... Mate, you ever got any questions regarding framing or want some advice, please feel free to PM anytime! More than happy to help...

Completely agree that most stuff doesn't need to be framed to a Museum grade standard too, roo but a lot of people do, as that level of framing is the only one that can truly be called conservation class. Chemically treated surface materials are still not conservation grade, nor completely acid free, in my book! Unfortunately, terms such as archival, conservation & even acid free have all pretty much lost all & any real meaning... They've become more a selling point & indeed brand names by manufacturers, much like most industries! Despite using pretty frames, Outre would still not even be close to being considered conservation framing, they'd really have to use materials such as UV glass & Rag Mat, or some such equivalent... And sadly, pretty sure they still do neither. Saying all that, a happy medium can always be found, where a classy look can be achieved, still with a high standard & without ever going over the top!
