Japanese Artists?
Is there a parallel poster art scene in Japan we're just not exposed to or are they just not into it as much?
If it does exist where would one find artists, galleries, etc? Any recommendations?

Good question. I browse yahoo auctions jp all the time for vintage movie posters from their exploitation/pinky films, but I haven't come across an equivalent of gig posters or pop culture prints yet.
I'm imagining a manga meets tadanori yokoo style in my head and getting a bit too excited, but really just interested in general to know what they're up to over there.statik wrote:What style?
I'm really into the paint brush strokes technique. I know a few resources but I'm on the wrong computer right now to dig up the bookmarks.
not overly on-topic, but what the hey...

Not a gig poster or movie poster but here's a movie related art print I bought while in Japan. Signed/numbered edition of 300.
kudos if you know what movie it's from.

I've always loved Fuco Ueda's work. I can't afford her originals though.

Aya Takano is great too. Her work is even less affordable.

This is one site I have bookmarked. It's a store/gallery based out of NY that focuses on contemporary Japanese art: http://www.akatako.net/xenmate wrote: where would one find artists, galleries, etc? Any recommendations?

Rockin Jellybean is sort of a cult superstar in Japan and internationally although he's marginally popular in this forum.

on a slight tangent again, there are some amazing pinstriping artists from Japan covered in the Pinstripe Planet II book, including Ghost, Makoto, and Mr. G but there aren't many prints and not even many photos online.
