i'd feel guilty abusing the local framers for mat matching and then walking out I did it once, but I couldn't do it again :(

Lots of art supply stores have a wide selection in their framing departments - I know Pearl's in San Francisco has most of the Select and Berkshire lines available, right out there for you to put your hands on and check with your own eye.

:shock:

I don't want to have to bring my prints in to a store to look at mats.
word.
Thats why I just use the Crescent/Berk product catalog. Now that i think about it, i think i just contacted Crescent directly to get literature sent out. Could be wrong though..

So who knows the secrect formula for measuring for the matts? I tried it once and got burned so I have not tried it again.

Lay your poster down flat and just measure out the size of the area you want to show. Let's say it measures out to 12.75 x 29.5. That's your mat opening size. Now, just figure out how wide you want your mat to be. Let's say 3 inches. So what you have is this:

12.75 x 29.5 opening
+ 6 + 6 (3 inches on each side)
___________
18.75 x 35.5 frame size.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If you're restricted to even inches, just figure out *about* how wide you want your mat to be, and find the best round number. If we still want our mat to be 3 inches, what you have is:

12.75 x 29.5 opening
+ 6 +6
__________

18.75 x 35.5

So you could go with 19 x 36 or 18 x 35...

Hope that helps.
