Can that be accurate?

If so I am kind of relieved because I had to pass on both for now - some other things came up this week. I'm sure there will be a lull in drops sooner or later and these will satisfy an itch quite nicely. Hopefully Michael does not get discouraged by the lack of support...we've seen how that can change virtually overnight.

We are just lucky the majority of people have bad taste. Oh, and I just bought 82 Spitfires, sorry.

that seems quite bonkers but maybe the high price tag threw a lot of people off. never seen a Peck in person (say 5 times fast). maybe the price was too high? anyone have any of his prints that they could shed some light on, quality wise? Spitfire is gonna be instantly walled in my place. love it.

if only they were wearing cosmonaut outfits and were floating in a a wierd angle...= instant sell out!

Can someone please expain the appeal of Spitfire to me?
Michael Peck undoubtedly has some serious talent, but as an aviator, there are just too many things that scream out to me as being wrong with the image.
The wings are the wrong shape and the attitude of the plane is way off. Artistic licence maybe, but the tail really should not be that far off the ground as the CofG of a Spit isn't that far forward. A crashed Spit would look more like this:





Also, (and I'm probably getting really nerdy here) the markings and engine type don't match the plane. DL-Z was a Mk V Spitfire named "Nigeria Oyo Province" and was flow by Squadron Leader Robert Oxspring in 1942. Here's how it actually looked:

I just think its a cool print. I'm sure if he wanted it painted exact, he could have done it. Maybe its supposed to be a dream, where things look the same but are a little off. I'd still like it even if one of the kids was wearing Air Jordans.

Why does the art have to look exactly like reality. That makes not sense to me. Just by a photograph if that is what you want.

I think the worst thing a hyper-realistic artist can do is paint something that looks like it was taken on a Nikon. I have seen many hyper-realistic artists who have painted wine glasses, marbles, boats, and such, but it is boring and a waste of talent IMHO.

The thing that separates people like Peck apart is combining this talent with their creativity and mindset to convey a message or evoke some emotion. Peck has used this to question the relationship between children and those who fight our wars. You could look at it a hundred different ways, but I am certain there is still a conversation to be had about the work.

I like Peck a lot, and Martin to for that matter, but it is for these reasons that Geddes seems to be the king of this style for me. He uses his brush to create hyper-realistic images in unrealistic situations, wrought with symbolism and beauty, and usually conveying some level of activity, instability, or uncertainty in a still image.

I find EB fascinating.... just because a print doesn't sell out immediately doesn't mean its poor or bad art. The reason most of the prints being discussed here on EB sell out immediately is because people flip the sht out of it. Check out Acedia and Moss Bride.......

If you are a fan of Michael's work, consider yourself lucky that you don't have to pay inflated prices on ebay since you missed out. If his stuff gets enough following.... who knows, he will be the next Geddes, Moss, Ansin, Taylor, ZOMG

Being a fan of someone who doesn't sell out instantly is infinitely better than being a fan of someone who does.

Cheers for the discussion guys. I never suggested this was poor or bad art, just that my aeronautical background makes me instantly pick up on certain elements that would bug me enough to never hang it.

As I said above, I think Michael has some serious talent. I was just curious as to why people seem to prefer this particular image over others. Personally I much prefer a lot of the other pieces Michael has done. Ones that focus on an individual character and, to me, show a lot more human emotion.

I hope he continues to release prints and that I’m able to pick up something that is more to my taste somewhere down the line. If this were ever released as a print I’d be in:

I REALLY like fighter pilot- but need to stop droppin so much $ on art. My 5 month old appreciates me passing on this- for now at least.

I had to pass on these for now just because of the cost. I will say I would've preferred this one to Spitfire, personally:



It at least solves the problem you have with the angle of the crash, if nothing else.
