Importing to the UK - VAT & Delivery info

There's a box on the bottom right for the tariff code, but it does say commercial use only.

I think just put it in the description box. I've had packages before where the sender has put it there, and I've just highlighted it when I send it back to make my tax claim.

Whether or not the code is written on the form, it seems border control just charge a standard 20%. Not sure if they are lazy bastards, or can't read, but either way they ignore it. Unfortunately, I think the tax will always have to be claimed back retrospectively. It's a ball ache, but it works.

I just received a poster from the US with the tariff code written in the description box (see below). This is the first time that UK border control have correctly charged me 5% tax, so it seems this is the right way to fill in the customs form.

Or maybe they've finally submitted after a deluge of Ebeaner's retrospective import tax claims

It would be a great help if members contribute their own advice and experience to this thread - any info regarding import tax, shipping, costs, etc.

Input from Ebeaners overseas is, of course, most welcome!

The easiest things to post would be your successful or (hopefully not) unsuccessful claims, with details on how the forms were filled out both on the tube and your retrospective claim.

Anything useful really, even just a plain old bump might benefit someone

Just input the cost of your print ...then the cost of the postage/insurance

Starting typing in "Art Print" in the item description and it will auto-fill itself in the relevent boxes , hit "return" and it will instantly tell you in plain English how much you SHOULD have paid in 5% VAT when importing it in from America (or anywhere) instead of their WRONG figure of 20% VAT

It gives you the knowledge of what your arguing for when you challenge their excessive charges to you.

Hmmmm , quick note on that duty calculator ive just posted a link to.

Its a great tool , but unbeknown to me it only lets you do so many calculations before it asks you to pay for its use (fair enough i surpose?)

Ive probably done about 10-12 calculations on it before i reatched my limit ....so if and when you use it , use it sparingly and dont use up all your credits in one mad session.

Hopefully it will reset my credits if I dont use it for a while?
