I always put the 9702.00 tariff code for any hand made art prints that I send to the UK.

I am not sure it if it has worked on the other end.

I have had no response from customers, I also never got any complaints, so it must have worked.
I used to do that years ago. Some people were appreciative. For the last 7 or 8 though... International goes first class, uninsured, low value stated, gift. It flies right through customs and is at that door sometimes faster than priority or express. Just pack solid, tube + a box (or triangle is the best).

I've sent hundreds this way, although not as many in the last year with so many buyers willing to use GSP. Good luck getting your money back when you overpay up front via that method. If the buyer is overpaying up front though I suspect they're not really worried about the money.
Its just sometimes hard getting a tube under the 24" length to go international first class. Especially if you want that extra kraft length at the ends to protect the edges.

Plus the last couple that I had shipped first class international during covid, got lost for a month. Buyer filed a claim. Got his money. Tube came a week later.

I wont ship first class international for anyone anymore.

So if I were overcharged and decided to file a claim, would my argument be that it should come under this tariff code?
You would have to ask your postal department. But yes as long as it fit in the tariff category. I tried googling a good description but couldnt find anything quick. Just google "UK tariff code 9702.00."

Doesn't have to be under 24" for rolls (aka tubes). Ebay sometimes puts that restriction on depending on the destination, but ya can print the postage directly on paypal or usps.com

Right there's still some kind of overall dimensions that 4" mondo sized Yazoo exceed by an inch or so, but I've only had a tube come back one time. Showed it to my PO guy and he confirmed it's just barely over the limit, even for a roll. Then he rescanned it and sent it off.

Not sure what yer talking about. I've shipped 4"x30" tubes all over the world via First Class. Perhaps there's some countries where it's restricted, but I can't think of any off the top of my head. Keep in mind, most postal workers have no fuggin clue what they're talking about when it comes to international packages.

Right so have I and technically the 4*30 is over the hard limit for first class international including rolls. That's what my guy says at the post office, he looked it up while I was standing there.

I just looked it up too:
251.23 Dimensions — Rolls
Rolls must be within the following dimensions:

Minimum length: 4 inches.
Minimum length plus twice the diameter combined: 6-3/4 inches.
Maximum length: 36 inches.
Maximum length plus twice the diameter combined: 42 inches.
A 3" * 30" tube is fine, 4" * 30" is over by 2 inches.

Huh? 2 x 4 = 8. 30 + 8 = 38

Right you start the calculation with 36 not 30, the formula calls for the maximum length which is defined in the previous line.

^ Now you confused me. Blue is right in that case.

Edit: I guess you are right. Luls.

Huh? The length of the tube is 30 not 36 though. That's the MAXIMUM length of the tube. Yalls reading comprehension is turrible. I do agree that it could be worded better though.

The wording def could be better. It's almost as if the person wrote the two lines for the minimum which make sense, and then tried to apply the same format for the maximum, which doesn't make sense.

I blame ygolocysp. He confused me, lol.

Though as it is written, I blame poor education.

Also, what the drymount is a roll? The roll is the content on the package, which is a tube. A mailing tube, or a cylinder, has only one length, which is its maximum and minimum length, by definition. Roll is a very strange word to choose. Canada Post calls it a tube mailer, I am pretty sure.

I had a tube roll sent back to me once that was 3"x24", and the reason was that it was too large. I had to go through half a dozen postal workers before I found one with 2 brain cells to rub together who confirmed that in fact, it had been returned in error. They figured out how to get the usps to cover the return postage as well.

Luls. They do have to take a test, but a lot of them get burnt out after decades of this nonsense. Part of the problem is the piss poor wording of their "policies" that's even confusing for us geniuses here (well some of ya at least).
