In the never ending chapter of drymounting thieves trying to steal from me here’s a new one.
I sold a poster on Facebook $275.
***SEPT 12, 2021
Good & Services. I printed out the label as usual via PayPal and shipped it right away.
Friday I get a message from the bottom feeding scammer saying he never received it.
Yes… we are 10 days away from it being 5 months since it was shipped.

He sends me the tracking numbers, I punch them in.
It says label created, not yet in system.
I re-check my records. Guess what? Those aren’t even my tracking numbers! So I punch in the correct tracking numbers to our transaction and. … same message!
Every last one of my tracking numbers via PayPal, eBay, and the usps counter say that.
DOZENS.
From July - September. They apparently expire?
I go down to the post office and waste an entire morning on this scam.
The postmaster types in the numbers.. “ Oh. Weird “
He does not believe me about every last one of my receipts stating label created not in system.
He kind of blows me off. So I go down there again with a stack of paper receipts from HIS Post Office.
He enters every last one of them. 11 in total all say the same thing.

The Facebook guy is threatening to open a case against me.
The postmaster says he’s busy but he hopefully will have time to look into it.
WTF.
Help.

I see the same thing with September shipments. I actually noticed this about a year ago when I had to follow up on an order I hadn't received and overlooked. When I initially made the inquiry it had the status of label created not dropped off yet. Then when the seller responded to me a week later and I looked at the tracking again it had the status that you are seeing.

Ugh.
What happened?
Did he forget to send?

If this post master blows me off, I don’t know what to do.

The Postmaster stood there confused as all hell.
I don’t think he knows how to proceed.

Right I ended up getting a refund but I wondered to myself what tracking status they saw on their end when they checked and whether they thought I was trying to scam them.

So, maybe it’s me, but when I ship USPS, I always put in my email address so as to be informed each time it’s scanned. When it’s delivered, I get a final email telling me the item has been delivered.
Sorry to hear about your experience, JB.

I had no idea I my ass was in the wind.
Why the drymount do I pay for tracking if it doesn’t track the damn thing?
I guess I’ll go down to the main office in Ventura at some point.

Yeah, unfortunately I do believe USPS tracking numbers do expire. I have saved loads of tracking numbers for the last 1 and a half years for my own records and if I sporadically check some of the older ones they will all show up as "not yet in system". I do not know how long it takes for them to expire, I just know they eventually do. My guess is they are wiped out 3-6 months after they are created (from doing some online searching). I also believe tracking numbers are re-used. If I remember correctly it happened to me once that I had an old tracking number which I checked later on and the history was for a completely different package.

Yes. That appears to be the case.
Postmaster said it would probably say something different if it was not delivered.
But this guy..: He actually sent me someone else’s tracking numbers. He’s going down the list seeing how we can steal from. He can’t keep track of who’s who.
Let me know if I can post his name in here.
Guessing some cases we should be able to make an exception.

If the tracking numbers expire before 6 months then it’s complete horseshit that PayPal gives 6 months to file a claim.

This is a great way to mitigate this risk, thank you!

Once I get the ‘delivered’ email, I put it in a folder, if needed. So far, so good.

Where do you put in your email address? At the counter? I’ve seen the keypad prompter asked if I want an email receipt. Is it there?
Or eBay/ PayPal? Thank you!

I put in the tracking number at the USPS website online. From there, you can get text messages or emails as the package is scanned.
