Just got done watching THE BIG SHORT. Powerful film! Hadn't seen it since it was released in theaters 3 years ago. I think they did an excellent job taking a subject as complicated as the 2008 mortgage crisis and breaking it down so the viewer could easily understand it.

Lovely! Ida is fabulous. I've been dying for months to see Cold War

Same as THE BIG SHORT, I hadn't seen this since the theaters in 2015 and while it's another powerful film, I don't think it has the same staying power and looking back, I'm a little surprised it won Best Picture. 3 years later, who's still talking about SPOTLIGHT?

Went downtown to catch a viewing of Andrzej Żuławski‘s (director of Possession) On the Silver Globe last night.
It’s a batshit weird Polish sci-fi epic with echoes of Tarkovsky and 2001; it’s damn near 3 hours long and - as with many Eastern European epics made in the late 70’s - it’s really only partially comprehensible, but is still a brazen and audacious acid trip of a film.
It was originally started in 1977; for reasons unknown (beyond being “disturbed by the footage”) the Polish government shut down the film around 80% of the way into production; Żuławski fled Poland and made films around Europe for a decade before coming back to Poland in 1988 and finishing the film. As opposed to trying to shoot the remaining 20% of the film, the narrative of the missing sections are provided by voice over. It debuted at Cannes that year, was shown a couple times, and basically disappeared. There was a bootleg DVD that started circulating around 2007, but the quality is apparently atrocious. Right before Żuławski died in 2016 the film was remastered and received his approval. This version of the film looks really great; apparently it doesn’t get shown a ton, but I recommend it if you get a chance.

Just finished watching MANDY. A very enjoyable ride, visually beautiful and glad to see Nicholas Cage back with a hit. For me, I'd say the only negatives were the pacing was slow at times and I felt it could have used a better soundtrack. Not that the one used was bad but felt a better sound could have put this over more in my opinion. If you get the chance, check it out and see what everyone's talking about!

Pine Barrens is probably my favorite episode. Chris and Paulie's banter was amazing!SPAC04 wrote:^gorkie wrote:The Price of Everything art market documentary is really interesting.
On a Sopranos note, I just watched "Pine Barrens" the other night, great stuff. That show was the funniest imo
I've been in the mood for some giallo's so last night I watched YOUR VICE IS A LOCKED ROOM AND ONLY I HAVE THE KEY. It was decent with a somewhat decent twist at the end. Was worn out of the cat meowing by the end of it honestly. The husband in the film, played by Luigi Pistilli, was a real piece of sh*t. But Edwige Fenech was absolutely stunning back in the day!
