The doll design is so so bad IMO. Saw the trailer and was like nope I’m good.

Caught Her Smell finally. Moss and ARP just make drymounting magic. Hope she gets a drymounting nom for this. She should have had one for QoE.

Also Dark Phoenix. drymount

Anytime a new Flanagan is announced or gets a trailer, it’s time to get excited. Excited af for this.

The design is, at first, a bit naff... but there's a disturbing artificiality to it that makes the design just... work. There's a scene that is specifically about the offputting look of the doll. If that's what's stopping you from seeing it, then you're robbing yourself from a very good movie.

May try to catch it this weekend. I was a bit put off by the doll design too, but the more commercials I see for it, the disturbing look of it has actually won me over.

CHILD'S PLAY

A terrible remake. After it was over I asked myself, "what did I just watch?" I was never huge into the franchise and I understand how the story shows our growing over reliance on technology. Even though I'm typically not a fan of child actors, Gabriel Bateman really was the only person to do a decent job. Aubrey Plaza was her usual airhead self, with very little to contribute to the film. Mark Hamill even seemed to phone it in as the voice of Chucky. His performance felt like it was done in 1 afternoon session. And the mechanical doll itself (not the CGI) was awful and the look was just off. 4/10

ANNA

Luc Besson is back which can only mean one thing: women kicking ass! Another enjoyable film for his repertoire with an introduction (at least for me) to Sasha Luss who stars as Anna. A beautiful girl who plays both the Russians and Americans between 1985-1990 as a Russian spy. My only beef with the film is the continuous back-and-forth with the timeline. However, coming so soon after JOHN WICK, this is another enjoyable action film that I'm sure won't make a lot of noise at the box office unfortunately. 6/10

The worst movies of 2019:
Tyler Perry's A Madea Family Funeral.
Trading Paint.
Hellboy.
The Hustle.
The Intruder.

They are just disgusting! Only in vain time spent on them!

Booksmart was better than the hype suggested it would be. One of the years best, easily.

ANNABELLE COMES HOME

Probably the best of the trilogy but that's not saying much. A few misdirection's to keep the audience guessing on the jump scares. Like any movie within this series there is a few but felt the pace was slower than it maybe should have been. It's always great to see Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga sink back into their roles as the Warrens. Even young Mckenna Grace as their daughter Judy Warren showed some range for such a young actress. Other than that, just as with every spin-off within the Conjuring Universe, it didn't do it for me. 5.5/10

YESTERDAY

A touching tribute from director Danny Boyle to the Fab Four (plus an interesting premise). A world where no one had ever heard of The Beatles, except for Jack Malik (played by Himesh Patel), after being involved in an accident, wakes up to just such a world. Struggling with his own music career, he plagiarizes The Beatles songs to finally make a name for himself. However, over the course of the film, he must choose between the feelings his has for his long time friend and former manager Ellie (played by Lily James) and his successful music career. A very touching moment towards the end of the film that I won't spoil. 6/10

Hey EBers,

Here’s a YT channel I put together where a bud and I review movies while also eating local LA asian takeout. Fold Pack Film. A “fold pack” is what you call those containers that you get when you get the food to-go. We briefly review the food at the end, too.

We review Jordan Peele’s US in the latest episode. Lemme know what you think.
