ACCBiggz's Best of 2019 (Letterboxd)

So far, only five films that I've been able to see this year have I rated 7/10 or higher and that includes Serenity because I was generally entertained by it for the most part. A very slow start to the year.

Recent ones I've seen:
Us - Good, but felt like the social media reaction was overstated a bit. Still nice to see original movies get love like that though.

Dumbo - Bland. So very bland. It's not bad, but just generally never brings you into it in any meaningful way.

Pet Sematary - Pretty bad. I think they thought that child would be creepy, but it was just bad acting. Lithgow was solid as was Church. But minor silver linings in an otherwise bad movie.

Shazam - This was fun. Similar to Us, I think the social reaction went a little too positive for how good the movie actually is. That may be simply because the bar is so low for DC right now. But it's a solid movie that will entertain. Certainly nothing wrong with that. I just wouldn't go in expecting something super fantastic.

Does "Endgame" mean that this will be the last one? Haven't seen the previous one... didn't it just come out last year?

Yes to both questions. ENDGAME is part 2 to last year's INFINITY WAR and it also closes out Phase 3 of the last 10 years worth of movies.

I'm sure this series will keep going long after I'm dead. All you need to know for Endgame is that half of the universe is dead (including Spiderdude! Who has a film coming out later this year so he's not really dead!) so the people who are still alive, Captain Murica and Iron Man's wife, will be trying to fix the problem. How? Who knows! Does it matter? No!

I was just being silly. I know they won't end and I will not be watching them.

Also, High Life is drymounting awesome. I really dug it and I'm still thinking about it.

High Life was good. A really interesting idea with some solid performances. Yet, left me more disconnected than I'd hoped.

Watch Yen Tan's 1985 last night and loved it. A really wonderful, quiet film about trauma being unfurled over a country in silence.

^There's a good in depth article on High Life in the new issue of Film Comment... the movie sounds interesting to say the least.
