Squids?
Without giving anything away, its a nod to the end of the graphic novel.

Yeah, lot of easter eggs in the pilot. Here's a list for anyone who's curious. Caught about half of them after the first viewing.

It's not giving anything away. The show is a sequel to the Graphic Novel, if you did the show I suggest at least reading up on how the Graphic Novel went down, but read it if you can its a masterpeice.

Mediocre opener for me, but it's an interesting shift to simple racism which could be key. Bring on Episode 2.

"having fun creating and destroying new sandcastles on Mars. The one we catch a glimpse of in the grainy news broadcast isn't nearly as opulent as the one he builds on the red planet in the comic."

they failed to point out that the building we see him "destroy" on Mars is the exact Replica of Veidt's castle.

I really don't mean to turn this thread super political (but whatever - its a political show) but the setup of Ep 1 has an all-too haunting resemblance to present day society, especially since Trump is enabling all the closeted racists to crawl out of the cracks and further enabling the rhetoric of the racists that are "out-and-about". That is terrifying to me - the 7th Kavlary seems all too possible.

^and that's completely in line with the Facist undertones of the Reagan-era when the issues were coming out . . . the Keene Act was a direct analogy for the repression and all the fudge that was going on under Reagan.

Good eye. I'll have to rewatch and catch that.

Jean Smart is one alluring fox. This was the first episode that had the intriguing intensity and excellent pace. This show needed a particular gravitas to emulate the iconic graphic novel and E3 succeeded. Something is off with the Chief Crawford though, I doubt he is dead and if that is the case, then yeah he is one charming bad guy. Loved Mr Irons playing theatrical prisoner who no doubt devours the Warden next week. The episode was great at explaining who 'Laurie Blake' was with a clever but sad retelling over a long distance phone call. It seemed that Dr Manhattan does have a sense of humor after all.

I cannot wait to see him again.
