So.....THIS just happened. :pint:

A surprise gift from one of my Instagram followers and longtime hero of mine (Joe Peacock, curator of the 'Art Of Akira' exhibition and owner of the largest private collection in the world), an original 4-layer cel set from Akira.
Holy fudge. :D  :notworthy:

The artist Packatrix totally killed it with this, i can't wait to see it side-by-side with the mighty Stout. :notworthy:

The b&w variant came out quite lovely too - could have hours of fun coloring it yourself (unless you're as utterly shitty with a pen as me, in which case it's best just to hang it on the wall or lock it in the flatfile outta harms way, lol).
I love the reg most of all, but the b&w is really charming and in keeping with the monochrome aesthetic of the manga.

Cheers dude!

Here's my new one of Tetsuo, taken from when he's standing with the Akira jars before the fight with Kaneda/SOL. It's got a lovely pencil douga underneath but too big a file to upload.

The Kaneda douga is on it's way to me too, it's from the intro chase right after Tetsuo has crashed, when Kaneda sees Takashi as the helicopter searchlights appear. :pint:

Vol.Co Anime Architecture
Collector’s Edition
The definitive visual guide to the cityscapes and buildings of the most celebrated and influential anime movies

https://vol.co/product/anime-architecture/

Image

"Presenting the breathtaking cityscapes and building structures created by the most revered directors and illustrators of Japanese animated films, Anime Architecture is a mind-blowing and behind-the-scenes journey through futuristic megacities and urban centres of the near future. Anime’s creators have conjured memorable and painstakingly detailed worlds, the influences of which have been felt across cinema, literature, comic books and videogames for decades.

This overdue celebration offers a peerless survey of these cinematic arenas – including material from AKIRA, Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Tekkonkinkreet – through original background paintings, storyboards, drafts, sources of inspiration and film excerpts. Produced in direct collaboration with the original Japanese production studios, Anime Architecture offers privileged views into the earliest conception stages of iconic scenes, through to their development into finished films.

The book will be on general release in autumn 2020. This collector’s edition, presented exclusively by Volume, features a custom acrylic case that captures the medium in which the anime masters worked, in an edition of 1000, with each copy numbered."
