Go ahead, make my millennium.
Anybody see that they are giving out 25 golden tickets to people who bought today. The Grand prize winner gets a trip to the criterion closet via web cam, how awesome is that!

My wish-list would go from 65 to 0 in a heartbeat, and I'd die happy.

The 39 Steps
The Earrings of Madame de . . .
City Lights
And I keep eyeing the 'selling fast' and other sections so I might not make it out of this sale lightly.
Posters, I've got posters for sale!

I didn't buy anything because they don't send to Australia.

I have a stupid question, is there a certain criteria for a Criterion release?
For example, while I was perusing the available titles yesterday, I couldn't help but think that almost every single David Lynch movie should be made available through them. Is it just a studio thing, or how does it work?

Criterion goes out and gets the distribution rights for a film to put it out on blu-ray. Same as how Mondo has to get permission to do a poster.Darkknight37 wrote:I have a stupid question, is there a certain criteria for a Criterion release?

Gotcha. Now in terms of type of movie though? I mean they're pretty much exclusively underground/classic type movies, but is there a specific reason whey they go out and get say a Harold and Maude over like The Breakfast Club? Is there like a panel that votes on titles?
Not arguing with their taste in film or anything, just never thought about it until yesterday. Plus I watched a video on how they restore films as well, so it just got me thinking. Here's the link:

I don't think there's a specific process. I know they have special ties with IFC and Janus, and a lot of those films are released through Criterion, at least the one's Criterion wants. As far as other things go, I think it just comes down to what they want and if it's plausible and the rights aren't currently held by another company. I'm sure there's a better explanation of this out there somewhere.Darkknight37 wrote:Gotcha. Now in terms of type of movie though? Just curious how you guys knew this sale was going to happen. Is this something Criterion announce in their newsletter?
I saw it on my facebook wall. I'm not sure about the newsletter.RestlessEye wrote:Just curious how you guys knew this sale was going to happen. Is this something Criterion announce in their newsletter?
Let's remember that they also released this complete with Michael Bay's gag reel. So sometimes they're not all THAT particular. http://www.criterion.com/films/578-arma ... tocompleteDarkknight37 wrote:Gotcha. Now in terms of type of movie though?
