“I originally made the Star Icon in January 1996 as I was transitioning into a period of my work inspired by Russian Constuctivist Propaganda posters. I had made a simplified illustration of the Giant face I called the Icon and I decided I wanted to make a star iteration. I cut a star shaped window out and played with cropping until I was happy. The print below was the first print I made using the star image. I only made an edition of 90 of them and probably only sold a small percentage of the 90. The rest went up on the street or were damaged. The Obey Star has been a crucial element in my work ever since so I decided to make a letterpress variation on the 1996 O.G. Obey Star. I’m very happy with how it turned out.” -Shepard Fairey

this is the quintessential fairey
I'll explain since I'm one of the people who said it. I don't like the majority of stuff he's put out over the last few years. For Shep, I like all the older stuff from before I was collecting. I like simpler stuff. Like you said, this is the quintessential Fairey and if I were to frame something of his, it would be something like this.

This brings me back to middle school and high school when the Andre stickers were making their way around the country and that's what I'll always think about when I think about Shep. So for me, this is great.

very similar here- while there have been some prints over the past few years I enjoy, as in most artists they continue to evolve both personally and printing technology etc, the older prints cast a different vibe- "more raw" seems to be a word that is coming to mind.

Really hope my work computer is up to snuff and can only hope for a quick drop- not a marathon one.

The letterpress Dove I loved, missed the drop- bummed. Not at all the money on that one- just liked it.

I'm actually framing this on top of my TWBB in the same frame.
