I have no issue with cream paper floated on a white mat, it's much better and cleaner than trying to get all fancy and matchy matchy with colored mats and overly designed framing. The art should be the focus, not the frame or mat.

I'm planning on floating mine on a white mat but with either a natural wood frame or white frame. I think black frames are a bit over powering on smaller pieces but that's just a personal preference.

Just in the preliminary stages of framing this. I'm using a BLACK frame and RED spacers. All I've done so far are cut and paint the spacers, and cut the backing (which is a very close match to the paper). I still have to hinge/float the print. Here's a picture with all the parts (minus the plexi) assembled so I can get an idea of what the finished piece will look like. I'm going to document the entire process and will post more once it's complete. In the end, if he's happy with the frame job, I'm sending this to maroozer as part of a trade.

I will be going that route. I just love the contrast that would bring. Suede mat with a nice wide reveal.

Be careful using leather and suede mats. They are not archival. Often if they are listed as archival they are referring to the underside of the mat (not they suede or leather top layer). It's only archival if you (cut an opening and) lay the mat on top of the art. If your art rests directly on the suede/leather it could (and probably will) discolor over time.

As stuckeye said I work in a museum handling a fair amount of art everyday. In my workspace I have metal wall racks for temporarily storing art.
