BROOKLYN BOUND EXHIBIT
STREET SIGNS, METROCARDS, MAPS & MORE
TAKE HOME A PIECE OF NEW YORK CITY!
Brooklyn Bound highlighting old school graffiti artists and the next generation of graffiti writers presents collectible works using mediums including subway and street signs, maps, and toy train cars. Curated by Laura Lulu Reich and Koz, the art show will take place from March 4 – April 2, 2023, at the Gallery at City Point, located at 445 Albee Square West in Downtown Brooklyn.
The gallery exhibit is curated to present the best graffiti artists – past and present - recreating New
York streets and subways collateral. Highlights to include street signs from subway stations
including 14th Street, Fulton Street and 207th Street, painted and tagged by EASY, COPE2 and T-Kid,
NYC subway maps colorfully plastered with paint by Zimad and Wane COD, framed MetroCard’s
featured anime characters.
The co-curators’ approach to this exhibit was inspired by images and typography utilized on signs
in the streets and subway system, which is synonymous to NY an democratizes the city. It doesn’t
matter what tax bracket you fit into, or neighborhood you grew up in, signs are meant to be
understood by the masses.
Reich comments, “Graffiti may not be embraced as easily as the signs we observe regularly, but
those who contribute to this art movement continue to grab the attention of the world by
storm.” Koz, adds, “Street signs, subway signs, and maps in New York used to be the only way to
find your way throughout the city. As we move into a digital world with screens and phones taking
over, it is the perfect time to find a new way of preserving the universal language of signage.”
Some notes from the artists about the show:
"It's befitting that we use found objects and ephemeral for this show. It is the New York City subway
system and this city, because this is where this artistic movement rose to greatness from." – Eric
Orr
“Colors and letters on the trains has the energy that can blissfully alter one’s life.” - Easy
Featured Artists include: AL DIAZ, BG183, COPE2, CHRIS RWK, EASY, ERIC ORR, KIT17, SKEME, TKID, WANE COD, ZIMAD
