I hadn't seen any of Joel Rea's work on here so thought it was worth sharing. Joel is another Aussie with some amazing talent and skills. These photos don't do justice to just how amazing these pieces must be to see first hand.

I saw a photo of his recent piece "Forces" piece earlier today (the top image) and i was floored by how good it looked.

Here's a selection of his work, and some useful links.

Joel Rea
Born in 1983 and graduated from the Queensland College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2003.

Recently, Joel has been a finalist in the 2010 Metro Art Award in Victoria and a finalist in the Redland Gallery Biennial Contemporary Painting Competition in Cleveland. Joel possesses an intuitive understanding of human nature with a jaw dropping clarity of vision that has to be seen to be believed.

“In my fine art practice I strive to produce technically striking oil paintings in the realm of photo-realistic/surreal painting. The imagery in my paintings primarily comes from my photography and study of nature, the figurative, still life and landscapes while exploring themes of the human condition and a young artists place within society.”

He has sold quite a few of his pieces by the looks of it - and for quite a few $$s too.

Wow! He sure can paint. What do they put in the water down there! Just saw the volcano one on FB and thought it looked cool.

The dog one is hilarious and bloody terrifying in equal parts.

The ones of his characters in motion really remind me of Alex Ross’ work. Especially the one of the two guys flying/falling against the cloud backdrop. That one is very impressive!
