toddmmarcus wrote:the listing states that the blotter will be a Screen Print. I am wondering what info confirms this? Screen printing with vegetable based inks? is it possible for it to have the same depth and color contrast with the varnishes that chuck achieved with the Mickey Hart edition without him using the same type of ink? if i recall, the Zoltron and Dave Hunter blotters with vegetable inks are lithos and not screen prints. I appreciate any insight on this topic. cheers.
his beatles series were the same process. havent seen them in person, but pictures seem to point to a decent vibrant color. every description i find says screen printed.
if it can be pushed through a screen, you really can print with almost any type of liquid/ink. i screen printed with elmers glue once.
fwiw, hunter is listed as a screen print (serigraph).

I contacted Shakedown Gallery, the source of the Dave Hunter blotters that are printed with vegetable inks, and I was told that those are in fact offset prints using a Heidelberg (not sure what that is) and they are not screen prints. Based on the description that Chuck used, I am led to believe that the his blotters are also offset prints and not screenprints. For the record I want to clarify that in my opinion this does not detract from their value or beauty, though I have not had the pleasure of seeing any of these in person, I assume they are awesome. That being said, Chuck and Dave's screenprinting skill is some of the most amazing printing I have seen by any artist and they both accomplish effects with layering and opacity and varnishes, etc. with this technique that are only achievable with this technique. Just want to make sure that the information we gather on this site with regards to the art is as accurate as possible. *Willing to trade some items in my FT list for Sperry or Hunter blotters* Stay well everyone.
it's a type of offset printing press.toddmmarcus wrote:...Heidelberg (not sure what that is)...

I can confirm that The Beatles / Orange Sunshine and Dave Hunter blotters were all printed offset with vegetable inks. I'm not producing this current print so not certain of that process, but I have the Gary Houston Acid Test 50th blotter by the same producer and it was offset with vegetable inks.
I'm unfamiliar with a Zoltron blotter. Can someone post a link to one? I'd love to check it out!

Did not realize that. Makes sense given when the events of the movie were taking place.applehead wrote:Fun fact. Ever see "Catch Me If You Can"? Thats the press he was using to make fake money.

Forgot about those. Always wondered why those were called "blotter" when none of them have perforations or seem to be blotter in any sense of the word that I can surmise.

Maybe it's as simple as "has lots of small blotter-like detail"... reminded him of blotter so he called them "blotter"...

SXSW, 2017
Edition of 300
21 x 34
7 colors on cream paper
Signed and Numbered
I’m very proud to announce I created the official poster for the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas. I love the long drive through the Southwest from San Francisco to Austin. Leaving SF in early March and returning after a meandering journey to Texas and back, it’s always a great pleasure to experience the beginning of Spring while catching one of the best music festival’s in the world. My SXSW poster communicates the spirit of hope and spring and music.
Sadly I will not be attending SXSW this year due to a packed schedule, but I will be there in spirit!
My poster will be available officially through SXSW on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 12 noon – at the main merchandising booth outside EH5 / Registration in the Austin Convention Center.
I’ll be making a very limited release of my SXSW poster and it’s variant on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at a random time
