Also, I do think that having extra prints, that are not numbered, is a good thing. It has been mentioned in this thread that a damaged print was received, and a replacement was sent with the same number after proof of destruction of the original was provided. IMO, this is no way dilutes the original run as it is a 1/1 replacement. Having un-numbered prints to use for this is a good thing as well.
I find this just as sketchy as a bazillion APs that suddenly come out of the woodwork years later.

It's one thing to send someone an AP if a print is damaged, or even an unnumbered print, but if #31 of the edition is replaced by another #31, diluting the original run is exactly what you're doing. The second print is not really #31

Really? I am just curious cause PJ doesn't release numbers. So at the venue and online at tenclub is 100? I usually thought they were closer to like 500-1000.

hey guys, as an artist who likes to do print runs of 50 screenprints of my art, I like to number all of them on the back (IF I am doing the printing and distribution myself) but I agree, with a smaller print run like that, there should only be a FEW AP'S like 5 or so... but if I go through a company (which I hope to do more of, hook me up please?? haha.) when they do a print run of 100, I believe 10 AP'S should be enough... VERY informative thread. thanks guys!
by the way, I still have ONE personal AP of the "who ya gonna call" screenprint left and if I get the RIGHT offer I would get rid of it.

old but worth the read

i wish i could post the pm that this old thread prompted a particular artist to send me, how he defended "selling off copies of his own prints he'd collected", talking down to collectors for things like "registration not even being on (the) radar" of so-called "collectors" like me and how he just "remembered" he had saved like 30 of a certain high-dollar print during the printing process while he adjusted the registration to his self-described ultimate standards but then sold them off later after he realized they were worth bank, and how he didn't care how his subsequent releases of s/d's and unnumbered A/Ps affected the value of my prints (and by extension, the integrity of editions)....but posting pm's is against the rules.

Can we get a hint? Edit: nevahmind.
I guess numbering AP's isn't necessarily necessary. An accurate count will do.
just a foil for me today, thanks

They should take it to the next step and publish lists of who bought what and for how much . Then if it's resold the seller should publish a list of who bought what and for how much .... Or skip prints and buy paintings .

You people are ridiculous.
however noble this may seem, please bring this argument to the guy who has a choice between a Dali print that you can buy at Spencer's gifts and the original painting of The Persistence of Memory.

Reminds me of Walter Benjamin -- art in the age of mechanical reproduction.

scarcity is a factor built in to purchasing limited edition products. inescapable truth.
