Pretty wild. How does he get the animals to look completely alert and upright like that? At first I thought maybe they are taxidermied, but then that would defeat the purpose of needing the formaldehyde. Anyone? ...

It's sort of offensive in that the animal's body is paraded around. On the other hand, this one will be seen and remembered unlike the millions that are raised and slaughtered every year. Then again how did he obtain it in such good condition? Was it euthanized just to become "art"?

I am not sure that if i was sitting in that restaurant about to tuck in to one of their 750gram mighty-marbled Glenarm sirloin steak and chips dishes for 60 quid that i would want have that sitting above me. Might put me off my meal.

Now that is a commission that cannot have been cheap!

I have no real strong feelings either way about Hirst. I think some look pretty nice and others not at all. I think this looks pretty nice.

But yeah, not sure I'd want to chow down on its cousin with it looking down at me

Right. Every $95 steak sold pays for 1 drop of formaldehyde.

Nobody answered my question.

Maybe I should just write the artist a letter...

Dear Mr. Hirst-

How do you get your rooster to look so completely alert and upright like that?

K- I think there is an agent added to the formaldehyde to thicken it.
It's more gelatinous than liquid.

Ah gotcha. That makes sense. OK no letter to Mr. Hirst. Thanks. :)
