IMO street graffiti was never meant to last, so it's the circle of life.

But man, what an idiotic choice it was to use PVC in a sunlight environment.

That hole in the wall is still worth more than my house.

I hadnt seen that shot of the pipes, I had assumed that a whole section of the wall had to be removed for contruction. Seeing that makes me want to find the plumber that did it and suggest some alternative places to stick his pipe.

This.
On the one hand I acknowledge that something like that was never going to last forever, but that placement just seems plain dumb.

There is one a couple of minutes walk from my old place in North London and there the council took the decision to actually protect it. Covered it up with a sheet of plexi glass screwed into the wall.

I'm possibly wrong about this, but I have a feeling that people in Australia still consider any form of street art as vandalism. They probably don't consider it art and therefore treat it the same as they would a piece of graffiti.

You've obviously never seen the lane ways in Melbourne :pint: But the again it's street art if BANKSY wanted this to last he'd paint it on canvas and not on the streets where it can be affected by the elements.

I love the laneways in Melbourne! I'm just not convinced that Australians are able to just leave these things alone, or y'know, not put a drain through it. I mean, look how many times the Numbat in Fremantle has had to be touched up and have speech bubbles removed and things like that. And that's only been there for about six months.

Gotta feel bad for the plumbers. They likely had no idea what they were doing.

The council is well aware of Banksy's art in Melbourne and does everything it can to protect it as far as I'm aware. We had one removed not to long ago by some graffiti removers who where told specifically not to touch the Banksy piece. There was a big hooohaaaa about it. Not sure about this one. Was on every news program tonight and the media has been quick to speak against it's damage.

I read some where that they had no idea about what they where doing. They still don't know what the fuss is all about.
