I can say from experience that Art schools really teached you to hate this guy almost drilling it into your head that you must hate everything Kinkade. It's like they had a personal vendetta against him or something even going as far by having someone coming in to lecture against his artwork which was just bizarre no matter how you felt about him.

As word of Kinkade's untimely death at age 54 spread Saturday, fans flocked to some galleries to buy his work.
"It's crazy beautiful. We're struggling with our own emotions, yet the public is coming in and just buying art off the wall," said Ester Wells, gallery director at the Thomas Kinkade Signature Gallery in Pismo Beach, Calif. "Right now, people are just coming in and buying everything in our inventory."
Many customers bought art as a tribute while others said it was a smart investment: They feel his work will now be worth more down the road, Wells said. Others stopped by just to say how sorry they were to hear of his death.

Moved my grandmother cross country a couple weeks back and weren't able to pack up a couple large Kinkade prints she had.
I don't think we've told her yet that they didn't make it and I'm sure hoping she doesn't ask now.

NPR had an obituary on the radio this morning. It was on the business news portion of Morning Edition.

Kinkade is like the Warhol of southwest art, coming from Phoenix you learned to loath this guy's dusty fudge.

Thomas Kinkade>MBW

'another told the story of Kinkade—reportedly given to "ritual territory marking"—pissing on a Winnie The Pooh statue at a Disneyland Hotel while muttering, “This one’s for you, Walt.”'

Should I be embarrassed or proud that I did not know who he was?

My gf's parents have a few of his works. They know I collect art so I fear the awkwardness when they ask me how much they'll be worth now and I have to say something like, "a bag of doorknobs."

Same thing was probably said about Dali, that didn't happen obviously.
Same fudge, different drop.

And if it doesn't pan out it looks like they can double as black light posters. Either way, all good.
