They both had to make their respective designs the same way-- as in they're facing exactly the same way, have the same face proportions, etc etc. I'm sure a lot of back and forth happened collaborating between the images. Maybe meeting in person isn't always feasible. But the way technology is today, you don't really need to meet in person to collaborate
