It boggles the mind that even though there is so much good SW artwork out there, when Disney releases a repackaged blu-ray set of the movies...

If they wanted close-ups of faces, they could at least have used Christian Waggoner's work. But this? I just don't get it.

It's also an odd choice of character selection.

1 Darth Maul - Makes sense
2 Yoda - Why?
3 General Insect Grievence - Who cares?
4 Darth Vader - Makes Sense
5 Storm Trooper - okay...
6 Emperor - sure why not
bbbbbbblam!

Guess you don't need to do any clearance for images of those characters like you would with "real people" like Harrison Ford, Carrie Fischer, Mark Hamil, Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor or Natalie Portman.

Are the new blu-rays the Lucas remakes again or the theatrical versions? Would really like to pick them up this time.

Nope, not theatrical versions. Same as the previous blu-ray set, except fewer features and it costs more. :) Check out Harmy's Despecialised HD Editions for the theatrical versions. Adywan's Star Wars Revisited is also a great take on Episode IV. His Empire Strikes Back Revisited should be amazing, though it's taken years and years, and it's still not finished.

I doubt likeness rights on cover art would be an issue, since Lucasfilm already owns so much SW stuff. I would think that anything that has been officially licensed through Acme would be fair game for packaging artwork. As I look at these covers again, I actually think the one of the Emperor is pretty decent, since it's not an image that we've seen ad nauseum on SW products. But it doesn't make sense to have a Sith on the cover of Return of the Jedi. Should've been on the Revenge of the Sith cover.

Posted this in the Star Wars comic thread but I'll post here too so more can see:

A Korean messenging company Line has a web comic site with a new Star Wars series starting with Luke as a young kid on Tatooine, not bad, there are four "issues" out so far

Thanks for mentioning it! This is the first I'd heard of it. I'm really enjoying the artwork (but wishing the dialogue--translation?--was up to a higher standard...). It's doing what I wish more SW art would do: showing familiar scenes from different perspectives, not just the same-old screenshots from the movies.

There are a couple translations that are slightly off, but I think it's mostly about the different cultural perspective. It's interesting either way and the art is good. I also like the idea of filling in a little of Luke's back story. Lucas film hasn't let many do this, that's mostly why I thought it was interesting.

I'm an editor, so I'm pickier than most about style and usage. :) I see many ways that the words of this comic could be just a little bit better--but it's still a really fun comic so far. Will he go through the entire trilogy?

I wonder how many galleries are scrambling to try to work out some kind of a deal with Hong Jac-Ga for exclusive posters and prints. :) I know I'd love to have a trilogy poster set by him.

I'm in Canada and it costs more to ship everywhere, so get over it.
