My 6 year old (coincidentally named Aaron) has a similar grip and they keep trying to correct it at school, but I'm like... "woah woah woah... wait a second here..."

My grip is a little bit more jacked, I think. I rest the ferrule on the top digit of my ring finger. That's how I hold a pen/pencil too. Have a huge callus now right in the bend.

jesus christ, that took me a few minutes to get just situated in my hand like that. im fairly confident im an idiot. also, that grip is weird as drymount.

Yeah, I watched it for weeks and it never sold. I guess $10k is a little steep for those interested in buying...although he's had other recent pieces sell for more, so I don't know.

Also, in regards to an earlier question about pens, mfaith ID'd the Staedler correctly. My partner has the same set of technical pens and really likes them. Rotring offers pretty much the same thing in their Isograph and Rapidograph lines, for what it's worth.

All that having been said, technical pens aren't the most art-friendly. They were originally designed for architects making technical drawings, and would be held at a 90 degree angle with the page. If held at a less steep angle there can be flow issues and quite a bit of scratching, as the tip is just a metal tube. In a pro's hands it's fine of course. But as someone who was just messing around with them one day, I quickly realized technical pens aren't the most intuitive of an artist's tools.

Makes me kind of wonder if that influenced Aaron's grip, actually. Holding the pen the way he does naturally creates a steep drawing angle whilst keeping the hand in a comfortable position.

Honestly, has anyone asked some of these gallery owners how hard it is to paint over these murals? I think I might cut the drywall away and just repair the wall rather than paint over that.

Pretty cool how it's in a corner, yet the image looks completely flat. Nicely done.
