Whoa ...

That John Maneval puzzle on the bottle cap brings back memeoires.

My dad drank Pearl Light from a bottle when I was a kid, and under each of their bottle caps was a puzzle just like that one, I used to LOVE solving them. Now that I think of it, that was probably the first beer I ever drank.

Just found this ...
In 1977 the Falstaff Brewing Corp was purchased by a California based
holding company who also owned General Brewing (Lucky Lager).
Rebus puzzles appeared on Ballantine Ale, Ballantine Beer, Ballantine
India Pale Ale, Falstaff, Haffenreffer, Kassel, Lone Star, Lucky Lager,
Narragansett, Pearl, Rainier Ale, Regal, and Texas Pride during the
1970's and the 1980's. They were called "Crown Ticklers".
The 413 puzzles were manufactured in eight series.
Series I were puzzles 1 to 55
Series II were puzzles 56 to 114
Series III were puzzles 115 to 163
Series IV were puzzles 164 to 222
Series V were puzzles 223 to 269
Series VI were puzzles 270 to 317
Series VII were puzzles 318 to 365
Series VIII were puzzles 366 to 413
Usually you only got caps from one series in a given area at a given time.

When we were kids, my brother and I used to go to the park in the mornings on weekends to collect Haffenreffer caps from under the bleachers to do the puzzles.

I can't remember which one, but his print was inspired by a particular brewery as well....

Pewter14 - Thats interesting. What inspired me was actually Lionshead Beer. I am not sure how widespread it is but we have it here in PA, its about $15 a case, not too bad in taste given the price. I am going to try to figure out if the puzzles are the same as the beer you mentioned. The puzzles are numbered the same way.

Time for the ol' hide the tube until the holiday trick.

I mean, you couldn't be expected to hide it til Christmas.

First time I heard about this, but I'm glad I did. I'm in for a couple. Wish I could have grabbed that AJ.
