Rudy's BBQ is the best. Bring a tube, go to or or Slater first tell Bona that you plan on flipping everything immediately.
out and perfect.

I went shopping for EMEK once and then "acquired" something for Jermaine from the conference center.

Any recommendations for the trip e.g

Are tubes and mylar paper on sale there.
Does stuff sell out fast?
Any particular artists (old and new) folks recommend I check out?

Thanks
are ya looking for flips or keepers?

flips: find jojo, follow him, buy what he buys. drive home. get rich. buy an island.
keepers: find out where your favorites artists booth is in advance, be the first person there in the morning
and talk that artist into drawing small sketches. most of them cave in after 6 to 10 hours.

The flippers pay for the keepers, right. So jojo show me the way ;-)

Is there a map online of the flatstock layout or at the convention centre?

Thanks for all the tips so far - the food ones are especialy good - man I love mexican and bbq.
You toss in a word, I'm your villain
I see the passion emerge, I'm your villain
But serious, You're so serious
Like a waiter, Hating the rich
But taking their tips

There is not a map, but there is a little booklet that API puts out that has a mini biography on each artist. Flatstock is not that large. It;s like 4 rows of 20 artists each (rough ballpark).

in 2008 there were lines at rob jones and bona's booths

last year, there were no lines.

I expect this year to be much like last year........so, I wouldn't worry about missing anything.

You guys are getting some really bad BBQ advice, other than what Jojo said.

Stubbs: Doesn't even rate. Historic place though. Great music. Go for the vibe, not the food.
Saltlick: The #1 most overrated BBQ in Austin. It's barely OK. The country atmosphere is nice though.
Rudy's: They have decent BBQ. But, I wouldn't call it top notch. I mean, the BBQ sauce is factory made with HFCS in it. It is a chain.

Austin area has 4 of the top 5 BBQ places in the state. Snow's in Lexington, the 2 Jojo mentioned in Lockhart, and Louis Mueller's in Taylor.

Other stuff:
The tubes are shorter ones. I think 24" wide. Unless they get other varieties this year.
That ATM has run out of cash in the past.

Meet and talk to your artists, and don't be fan boys.

if you bring a laptop or an iPhone......there is wireless available and most artists accept paypal payments, but don't expect them to have a CPU.

Stubbs: true.
Saltlick: that is your opinion, but I still think it is one of the best, pretty easily.
Rudy's: also true. It is a chain, nothing special.

And I've hit up 3/4 other locations you've mentioned, and they're great - but I still say Salt Lick is the way to go if you're an out-of-towner.

Thanks for the ATM advice - I'll probably just go to HEB before and do the cash-back with my debit.
