I love his stuff but I really don't know if I can see it hanging on my wall and I can't quite afford to be dropping over $170 on a print.

I do understand the aesthetic in turning the print (Cafe), I guess for me, respecting the artist's idea is important.
Although, I have always wanted to do some work on the Mona Lisa and give it a 'stache, do some damage on the Last Supper, put some Bud Lights around the table... things like that.
anyway, yeah, his work is amazing. there are more people out there that do 'realism'/new realism/hyper-realism, whatever term they have coined for this movement... there is Mercedes Helnwein's dad (Gottfried) http://www.helnwein-artstore.com/, there is Jeff Ramirez http://www.jefframirez.com/paintings.html, aron nagel http://www.aaronnagel.com/gallery.html, a lot of people out there... but I do see why Geddes is more popular. His work/themes are quite mesmerizing.

I have one signed as a vertical print, but after seeing these posts, I think I prefer it horizontal. But I'm not willing to buy a second Cafe just to re-orient the print ... oh well. Still like it with a vertical orientation.

Actually if you look way back on Jeremy's blog when he first revealed the image it was horizontal.churdiales wrote:I do understand the aesthetic in turning the print (Cafe), I guess for me, respecting the artist's idea is important.

very cool, I didn't know that... wonder why he went for the vertical look instead? I guess horizontally, the emphasis is on the tables, lamp, windows; whereas vertically you can't let that levitating body escape your eyes. your brain freezes there and forgets there are more items in the composition.sixstringer wrote:Actually if you look way back on Jeremy's blog when he first revealed the image it was horizontal.churdiales wrote:I do understand the aesthetic in turning the print (Cafe), I guess for me, respecting the artist's idea is important.

anyhow, very cool.

It was mentioned before that Jeremy would sign The Cafe horizontal if you wanted him too. I thought it was strange that he would be willing to do that, but I guess originally he had it in his mind that it might be that way.

Maybe you'll know this, but who was the guy that was putting Star Wars things into "real life" scenes? It wasn't that long ago (maybe last fall), but there was an exhibition where the artist took urban scenes (from Earth, modern day) and had Star Wars elements in them. One of them was a foggy downtown scene with an AT-AT emerging through the fog. Anyway, that idea of 'realism' made me think of that because the images looked like photos of Star Wars things being a reality in our every day world. Thought that was kind of neat.churdiales wrote:I do understand the aesthetic in turning the print (Cafe), I guess for me, respecting the artist's idea is important.

I got into Jeremy's through Heat Death, which was the same year I got into posters, which was all because a friend randomly mentioned that she thought I would like a little blog called omgposters. Sigh, it was all down hill from there really.

Christ, tell me about it! I first saw Redemption or Small White Cosmonaut as it was called at the time of its release last May and now I'm hooked on Jeremys work....afrosteeziac wrote:I got into Jeremy's through Heat Death, which was the same year I got into posters, which was all because a friend randomly mentioned that she thought I would like a little blog called omgposters. Soph just indicated that the KIng Edward piece and print release will be some time down the track.
They need to return to Canberra for some reference pictures prior to his painting the piece.
In the meantime, "A Perfect Vacuum" will fill the void nicely...

Just bought one too. haha It's really been a long time coming. I was finally at the point where I could justify dropping 170 bucks on a print. Just like you I knew I would regret it forever if I didn't grab one before it was too late.bisondice wrote:Damn you people!!! Alright already, just bought cafe. This is the Brown Cosmonaut AP and I decided to hang it the way he signed it:
But to make things confusing it appears this way on his blog. It is titled Cosmo 4 even though others call it Cosmo 3:
