If it's done again in the future, I would suggest requiring the artist to depict a real sporting event..and have them be specific as possible.
In my opinion there are too many prints that are not specific enough to sports and/or 'Greatest Sporting Events in History'.
Over the Line
The Dude Invitational
Gameday
Calvinball
Squids vs. Whales
Pro-Hoop Oop
The All Star
Mascots
Strongest Man on Earth
Blitz
The Diver
Whoop Ass Boxer
Lucha Libre
Belly Itcher
Untitled
Fishes and Me
Road Surfer abd Wave Breaker
Local Legend
To me none of those above are related to "The Greatest Moments in Sports History" but rather just 'cool art prints'

I think that's kind of the point. I think the show was meant to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek.s_k_y wrote:

I'm going to generalize and say that a good percentage of art print collectors are not rabid sports fans (minus those who've been posting in this thread). Therefore, why print up super specific sporting events that very few in the art community want to put on their walls? The Dude Invitational is going to sell a hell of a lot better than "Kobe's 81 point game" or whatever.

That's debatable. And I think even having something that related to a sports team (like what Danger did) is better than something else. It's nice to a have a mix but personally I would prefer seeing something similar between each of the pieces in the show. It makes the theme more organized and coherent. But hey, it's subjective...rmoore wrote:Therefore, why print up super specific sporting events that very few in the art community want to put on their walls?
no, I looked at the blog incorrectly. my fault.fluffhead13 wrote:both Stout's? There was more than 1??
It just seems to be all over the place. I'm sure it wasn't easy to organize by any means because of the volume of artists involved....maybe they didn't want to ruffle feathers by requiring artists to submit ideas for an approval ahead of time. I can understand why they wouldn't have done that though too.
Either way I'm sure it was quite the task!
Well, for one thing, when you produce very team-specific stuff, there's a 1/30 chance that it will be for "your team", meaning you alienate the other 29 people. That is one thing we were worried about.

I'm with SKY, I was a bit bummed that very few had anything to do with actual sporting events.
very true, but it also opens it up to non-poster sports memorabilia collectorsmcnail wrote:Well, for one thing, when you produce very team-specific stuff, there's a 1/30 chance that it will be for "your team", meaning you alienate the other 29 people. That is one thing we were worried about.
a little surprised this guy didn't have a poster in the show either, maybe next time

In the case of the Buffalo Bills print for this show it alienates 30/30. Who would want that print? Not Buffalo fans...mcnail wrote:Well, for one thing, when you produce very team-specific stuff, there's a 1/30 chance that it will be for "your team", meaning you alienate the other 29 people. Me too. I bought a Yankee Stadium print for my brother for his birthday last year, very nice.schmoff wrote:a little surprised this guy didn't have a poster in the show either, maybe next time

Didn't buy it, though.
