I'll bite. OBEY charged me $14 to ship my print I scored today... I live 15 miles from OBEY. It doesn't cost $14 in UPS charges to ship a print 15 miles. Included in that price is cost of the tube/shipping labor on Obey's side and maybe half (actually it's less) goes to UPS because of a bulk rate Obey negotiates with them for the year.Grateful69Phish wrote:The old usps postal worker debate
Someone quoted me earlier "Shipping USPS within the borders of the United States averages around $6-8 including the tube and employee time/handling." This is a fact - and it's true with all carriers UPS, FEDX, USPS, that averaged across the 450 prints that were sold today it will cost OBEY roughly what I stated. OBEY will actually profit off of the shipping charges. Now, if all 450 prints were being shipped to the farthest reaches of the United States that number would skew higher but not by that much because OBEY already has a shipping rate in place.
I'm surprised no one here has ever worked in a mailroom before.
*The shipping talk is only because people fail to understand or take into consideration the mark-up that is occurring in the industry. And Obey isn't even the worst offender, that title goes to Mondo, they make so much additional money off of shipping fees but nobody even thinks twice about it.

When I'm done ranting about elite power that rules the planet under a totalitarian government that uses the media to keep people stupid, my throat gets parched. That's why I drink Orange Drink. - BH
But how much would it cost if they were to drive it to you? The delivery guy gets paid $10 per hour. It would take at least an hour thru traffic to get it to you then you add in the cost of gas, a handling fee and a trip/tip charge. Plus the company that hired the delivery driver has to make money.KingOfNothing wrote:I'll bite. OBEY charged me $14 to ship my print I scored today... I live 15 miles from OBEY. Add all of that up and it would be well over $20.
Overall, I would say you got a deal.

I'm not complaining about whether I'm getting a good deal or not. I'm merely pointing out the fact that there's some padding going on in the shipping costs, nothing more, nothing less. If nobody notices, nobody cares.mattlew69 wrote:But how much would it cost if they were to drive it to you? The delivery guy gets paid $10 per hour.
