i grabbed the peace elephant. was super happy to. but lately it's been pretty meh. the catalogue is mostly new material, nothing much that really jazzes me for those prices. i grabbed the stacks set but they also feels pretty bland. not even much effort to make them different, just two triangles swapped with the rest the same colors. can barely tell they are different from thumbnails. at least change up the colors a bit.

I haven't seen the catalog but if Radiant Lotus is any indication as to how the other pieces look...hmm. I don't get the addition of those drips at all. It's a mess.
Wanda: I can't stand people. I hate them. Do you hate them?
Henry: No, but I seem to feel better when they're not around.

Drips are #sostreet tho. I think it’s a cool piece.

A lot of Shep's handmade stuff has drips/cuts/sprays/stains that are either obvious, or subtle and are only visible at an angle. I don't think there's anything to "get" with those features; either you like it or you don't. Here's some of the obvious/angled drips in Fan the Flames for example: https://imgur.com/a/ereb0LE

I could see why some people don't like Radiant Lotus. It's kinda off-centered, the weight is a little weird. It's a circle. It has drips.

FWIW I think it's great. It looks like a modern palette nod to Islam. But to be fair my taste is questionable.

Eh. Whose isn't. When the drips are subtly incorporated throughout the whole piece, like your example, it looks more...natural? The drips on Lotus detract from what is otherwise a clean looking piece.

I don’t see it as a nod since Islam is too much of an obvious nod the the Islamic crescent and star. One crescent, one star.

In the years following Islam, Shep evolved shoving Andre into circles, into shoving flowers into circles.

The reason I think he's riffing on his Islam Andre is that if you flip Radiant Lotus upside down, it's basically an elaborate version of the same motif but with a lotus in place of the Andre star. The weight and proportion of it IMO is not a coincidence. I'll concede that none of this ultimately matters.

My head's probably up in the clouds, but I think it's a deliberate recycling of that motif. At least that's what I'd like to think ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

though the crescent and star has been heavily used by islam in this day and age, it's history is long and rich and been used by many through out the years.

The current fine art piece just seems to work off concentric circles and not a crescent. No star either, just a lotus which recurs in a lot of images
