The Hollywood Bowl Poster Art Show 2009

After a summer of memorable shows at the Hollywood Bowl, the 2009 posters will be exhibited at the Arclight along with many images created for bowl performances throughout the years. No one will forget Grace Jones master class in theatricality and the night that Jenny Lewis and Ray Lamontagne shared their unique authenticity with the Bowl audience. These shows and more hold a special spot in our hearts and now can take their place on our walls.
On Tuesday, November 17, the Arclight Hollywood unveils the first-ever exhibit of Hollywood Bowl posters featuring artwork from the past and present. La-La Land Gallery and the Los Angeles Philharmonic curate this exhibit of 2009 Hollywood Bowl poster art, vintage pieces and exclusive works by Tim Biskup, Stanley Mouse, Camille Rose Garcia, Shag, Gary Taxali, Niagara and Chris Reccardi. All 13 posters created for the 2009 Hollywood Bowl summer season will be on display.
The posters were created for such superstars as Liza Minnelli, Aretha Franklin, Death Cab for Cutie, Pink Martini, and Adele. Each artist who created a poster for the 2009 Hollywood Bowl series will also feature an exclusive new work alongside their poster. Vintage posters from past seasons at the Hollywood Bowl and special printings of vintage programs will also be on display. David Wiedman, the artist best known for his work on Mr. Magoo, designed the poster for the exhibit.
At the reception select signed limited edition posters from the 2009 series will be avaiable for purchase. The 2009 Hollywood Bowl Poster Artshow is curated by artist Kii Arens of La-La Land Gallery Shannon Cornett or the LA PHil. The reception Tuesday is open to the public (RSVP is required to hbposter@gmail.com). Special guest artists, Moonrats, featuring classically trained keyboardist Aska Matsumiya, singer/guitarist Nathan Thelen, bassist Pete Lyman and drummer Jason Echeverria are will perform at the gallery opening.
The exhibit will run from November 17, 2009 until January 5, 2010 at the Arclight Hollywood, 6360 West Sunset Boulevard. Beginning November 17th, the posters David Wiedman's poster ans the ones from the 2009 season will also be available online at lalalandposters.com. The signed posters are priced at $75 each, however the exclusive pieces of art will be priced by the artists themselves and will vary.
