frankly, I don't care what Michael ends up doing...........it's his posters, it's his legacy; he can do whatever he decides.

What dragged me into this stupid thread is the lack of respect of the GP crowd. It's not just this thread, it's over and over again. It's the stupid Us vs. Them attitude.........the constant disrespect of artists of earlier generations and genres. A former board member of the drymounting API acts like a total donkey to the applause of his jackass peers.........that's a great way to use your influence. Way to go dicknut.

I met Michael a few times. He is a very nice guy. So what. Again this is not about being nice or trusting. It is all about how you as a community continue to make rock posters become more and more like baseball cards. Its the idea that was stupid and still is flawed... And its the people here not stopping this.

Maybe the board members here should make numbering ethics a priority. Then again I doubt people like morst can be fair and balanced so to speak.

I own about 20 everett prints.
i wasn't accusing you of having a conflict of interest. I was just saying richiegoodtimes doesn't, well I assume he doesn't, I would hate to stereotype.

baseball cards?............the poster producers and poster artists are the ones making limited edition prints that are signed and numbered. They are the ones making them collectible.........then you come into a collector's website and blame the collector for something that you made collectible? Are you kidding me?

i actually agreed with you about this issue, but once again, you have to drag the EB board and morst into yet another of your meltdowns. EB and it's board has no influence or say over what individual artists do, so please stop beating that drum.

this is no more unethical than if I sent my Kozik NIN poster to kozik to get authenticated as real.

or is bootlegging consider cool and punkrock these days?

I buy a lot of posters on the secondhand marketplace..........sure it's rare, but sometimes I end up w/ bootlegs. With technology the way it is today, it's getting easier and easier for folks to bootleg prints. Ebay doesn't seem to care and most of the artists that I contact when I buy a bootleg of their work are pretty much disinterested. Folks are bootlegging prints that make you wonder why someone would even bother........I'm talking about $25-50 prints, not Kellum level fudge here. Take a look at the bootleg thread on EB..........there's a little bit of everything on there.

I don't know a lot of details, but there is some suspected foul play w/ some of michael's prints. I don't know which prints are in question or the scope of the potential bootlegging. I purchased all my prints from Michael, so I'm not really concerned. This is more for the folks that may have purchased their everett prints on the secondary marketplace.

I have zero unsigned Everett posters.
hhmmm, unsigned, gotcha on that, but is that really what this is all about? To me the numbering thing seems to be paramount here and the response seems carefully crafted.

I don't know what to say about all of this. Part of me thinks...great, a way to authenticate posters that may be in question (which by the way, i've never heard of a rash of bootlegged everetts anyways, but what do I know??), but the numbering thing bugs me. I'll say that I own less than 10 everetts and 3 were given to me by Mr. Everett out of the kindness of his heart for which I will always be appreciative of...so I have no vested interest...

In fact the only super rare peice I had was just sold....to none other than norbyjake who bought a GD deer Creek like 2 weeks ago (for a song considering what they used to go for). So, here I am wondering...will that peice I just sold now end up as #1 or something similarly low becuase its in the hands of one of the 2 people behind this? Not sure, nor do I care that much becuase the deal is done and I'll likely never see that peice ever again as I assume the price of poker for that print just went up, especially now it will be authenticated and numbered (I knew it was authentic the whole time based on its source, funny how a dealer called it in question during the deal)...what bugs me was I suspect this plan was in the works for a while, but not disclosed at the time of my sale....It may or may not have made a difference in the timing of the sale, the price asked for, or more to the point, to whom I decide to sell it to as I have no desire in taking a hit finanically on a piece in order to sell it to a dealer who wants to talk it down (in discussions with me) as potentially questionable as far as authenticity goes, and yet has a plan in the works to number these prints from 14 years ago and will lilkely talk up the piece and its rarity on the next potential dealing (sale to someone else) now its been authenticated and numbered.

So, is that piece I just sold now going to be THE or ONE OF THE key GD Deer Creek peices only to have a price tag much higher than said dealer paid a couple weeks ago, and price is now justified by this "service" thats been done?

Again, not a huge deal to me since I have no vested interest, and no longer own the GD Deer Creek piece, but the timing is a bit strange and though I'm not calling anyone out, I'm bringing up some timely and valid concerns of mine that I'm sure others would have as well especially so close on the heels of selling one of these pieces to an involved party.

Again, Not trying to fan the flames, but this topic and my recent sale certainly deserve a couple more pennies tossed into the mix.

I do like the idea of Michael taking steps to control unauthorized copies, and the notion of authenticating and signing makes sense...but editioning with numbers after the fact seems unrealistic to accompish what you are trying to accomplish (which is what again with regards to numbering???). Only a portion will end up with numbers and what does that mean? The people with unnumbered prints will have questionable items in their collection will end up having to go thru this, or other dealers to authenticate the works, so to me this seems to benefit certain people (big fries) and potentially hurt others (small fries)..but its all my perception and may be off.

Dudes. They are not being numbered. Everybody chill.

As the primary concern in this forum seems to be the fact that the posters have a number, I have asked Michael if he feels comfortable authenticating the posters in a different manner, and he is more than happy to do so. He will have a special stamp made that he will stamp on the back of each (authentic) poster.

I honestly don't really think any of this, other than ME signing posters for his collectors, is a good idea. It's not like everyone who has ever purchased an Everett poster is on EB, so the stamp will only be on x number of posters anyway. What's that really going to do? Is there really that much bootlegging going on? Again, if there is, tell us the specifics so we can do our part.

And on the stamp it will have "edition of __" . That's the concern, creating an edition out of a previously undisclosed or unknown print run.
